About Us
Propel is on a mission to empower low-income Americans by simplifying access to government benefits with modern technology. We're a passionate team of 100 Propellers - all working to help our users get through the month, every month. We launched the Propel Marketplace to connect our ~10M users to products, services, and exclusive offers from leading brands across grocery, healthcare, and financial services. It has grown into a powerful, industry-leading performance tool for our partners and a critical revenue driver for Propel.
The Role
Propel is seeking a strategic and results-driven Account Director to lead and grow the Grocery vertical within our rapidly expanding Marketplace business. In this high-impact role, you’ll manage and deepen relationships for our key accounts, some of the nation’s top grocery brands—as well as innovative emerging players—to deliver meaningful results for our partners and our users.
As Account Director, you’ll be responsible for driving revenue growth, strengthening strategic partnerships, and ensuring our partners see exceptional value from their engagement with Propel. Our partners promote mission-aligned products and services that help low-income Americans stretch their resources—through grocery discounts, subsidized phone plans, discounted home internet, energy assistance programs, and more.
Here's how you'll impact the company:
- Own and cultivate strong relationships with executive-level stakeholders (e.g., VP, SVP, C-suite) across multiple functions within high-impact grocery retailers (S&P 500 national chains to regional and mission-aligned grocers) —ensuring strong partner satisfaction and long-term collaboration.
- Navigate complex organizational structures to identify champions and influence cross-functional decision-making.
- Identify and capitalize on opportunities to expand into new business units, product lines, or geographies within existing accounts.
- Lead cross-functional pitches and proposals to win new business and drive account expansion.
- Collaborate closely with product, marketing, and operations to co-develop solutions that align with client growth objectives.
- Manage and mentor one direct report, supporting their growth and development while aligning team efforts to broader vertical goals.
- Develop and execute strategic account plans tailored to the grocery vertical to drive revenue growth, maximize user impact, and strengthen Propel’s value to our partners.
- Act as a strategic advisor to grocery partners, deeply understanding their category dynamics, promotional strategies, and business goals to identify opportunities for deeper engagement.
- Lead contract negotiations, renewals, and upsell opportunities to expand grocery partnerships and secure long-term value.
- Partner cross-functionally with Product, Marketing, and Operations to launch new grocery campaigns, streamline offer delivery, and ensure smooth technical integration.
- Leverage and uplevel data-driven insights to deliver regular performance reporting, ROI analysis, and strategic recommendations to grocery partners.
- Build and execute against partner account plans and joint business plans, ensuring alignment on key metrics and delivering measurable results.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities within existing grocery accounts, testing new offer types, geographies, and campaign strategies to drive innovation and scale impact.
Requirements:
- 10+ years of experience in account management, strategic partnerships, or business development at a fintech, AdTech, or mission-driven organization
- Experience with digital marketing and advertising is a must. Strong track record of driving significant revenue growth for accounts
- Experience negotiating commercial deals with Fortune 500 companies, including scaling such deals across multiple partners
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills with a consultative approach
- Ability to translate partner needs into actionable solutions within Propel’s platform
- Ability to manage multiple high-priority projects simultaneously
- Experience translating concepts and insights into marketing programs
- A demonstrated ability to evangelize and influence across all levels of an organization
- Data-driven mindset with experience in performance analysis and reporting
- Passion for Propel’s mission and commitment to serving low-income communities
At Propel, you'll enjoy:
- Meaningful work and a strong shared sense of mission
- Remote-friendly work environment with a dog-friendly office in Downtown Brooklyn and satellite offices in San Francisco and Salt Lake City; All-company retreats and on-site roughly twice per year

More About Propel
We believe that Americans with limited income deserve modern, respectful, and effective experiences around their government benefits and money. Unfortunately, the status quo often fails to treat them as first-class citizens in their daily interactions around the social safety net and financial services. The tech industry hasn’t pulled its weight in solving the problems faced by low-income Americans.
Propel’s mission is to change that. We’ve built Providers, the single most popular app in the country built specifically for low-income Americans.Over 5 million families each month use Providers to seamlessly manage their government benefits (programs like SNAP, commonly known as food stamps) while saving and earning money. Providers has been recognized by the White House, featured on the front page of the NYTimes, and carries over 500,000 five star reviews.
Propel is a for-profit, venture-backed start-up company that holds its social mission at its core. We’re proud to be supported by a blend of nonprofits, impact investors, and world-class investors, including the Robin Hood Foundation, Andreessen Horowitz, Nyca Partners, Financial Health Network, JPMorganChase, Kevin Durant, Serena Williams, and Nas. For us to build a self-sustaining and profitable business, we need to deeply understand our user’s needs and build multiple successful products addressing those needs. If this challenge appeals to you, we’d love to talk!
Propel
We're making America's safety net more user-friendly. Formerly called Providers, Propel is the #1 rated app for checking your EBT (food stamp) balance and much more.
