Mogo is seeking anAnalytics Engineer with a passion for bridging business and data through AI-powered solutions. You will play a central role in designing and implementing semantic data models in Snowflake, enabling our AI chatbot to answer complex business questions about our products. This is a business-facing role requiring strong communication skills, a deep understanding of financial data, and the ability to model and surface data in an intuitive, AI-ready way.You will become the subject matter expert (SME) on Mogo’s business data, working closely with stakeholders to translate business logic into scalable semantic layers for Cortex Analyst, while also ensuring the underlying ETLs are understood and aligned with model requirements.
Base salary for this role: $80,000 - $100,000 CAD
What You’ll Do & Key Responsibilities:
AI-Driven Data Access
- Co-develop an AI-powered chatbot that navigates Snowflake semantic models to answer business questions.
- Enable natural language access to analytics through Cortex Analyst, ensuring the semantic layer supports business needs.
- Design and maintain business-aligned semantic models in Snowflake
- Serve as the bridge between raw data and self-service analytics, modeling entities, facts, and metrics that align with Mogo’s financial products.
- Partner with stakeholders across different teams to understand KPIs, metrics, and operational context.
- Act as the SME for our business data, ensuring data quality, clarity, and usability for business users and AI tools.
- Proactively identify gaps in data or semantic logic and recommend solutions.
- Investigate and document Python-based ETL pipelines that bring raw data into Snowflake.
- Collaborate with the Data Engineering team to ensure semantic models are built on accurate, well-understood foundations.
- Embody and model Mogo’s high-performance attributes: ownership, collaboration, innovation, speed, and impact.
- Share knowledge and best practices across teams to foster data-driven decision-making.
- 3–6 years experience in a data analytics, analytics engineering, or data engineering role.
- Experience working with Snowflake, including semantic modeling and performance tuning.
- Familiarity with Cortex Analyst or similar natural language-to-SQL platforms.
- Experience working with BI reporting tools in the past, preferably Looker
- Strong grasp of data modeling principles, including entity-relationship modeling, metric layer design, and business logic mapping.
- Deep understanding of financial products, or a strong interest in acquiring this expertise quickly.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Prior experience in a fintech or financial services environment.
- Exposure to Looker, dbt, or other semantic layer tooling.
- CompetentPythonskills, for supporting light data transformation and automation tasks.
