Job Description
We’re looking for a highly motivated attorney with significant Intellectual Prooperty litigation and counseling experience to join our legal team. You will use your experience, expertise, and proactive approach to drive Reddit’s IP strategy, provide seasoned counsel, and make a big impact on Reddit’s rapidly-growing business.
What You’ll Do:
- Manage all aspects of Reddit’s IP litigation portfolio, from pre-litigation strategy through case resolution.
- Provide legal counsel on all IP matters, including IP prosecution, acquisition, licensing, litigation, and strategy.
- Collaborate with Reddit’s engineering, product, and legal teams, along with outside counsel, to mitigate IP risk, protect Reddit’s brand, business, and innovations, and build Reddit’s patent portfolio.
- Analyze inbound IP licensing and acquisition opportunities, and patent assertions.
- Provide strategic advice and support to Reddit’s product and commercial teams on IP-related issues.
- Make smart judgment calls, navigate risks, and creatively manage internal and external challenges on Reddit’s IP matters.
What We’re Looking For:
- You have 10+ years of experience practicing IP law, including significant IP litigation experience and time spent working in-house for a tech company.
- You have a strong understanding of patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret law.
- You want to handle a wide variety of IP matters and proactively collaborate with various teams across Reddit.
- You understand patent terminology, processes, requirements, and systems, have experience conducting prior art searches, and analyzing and interpreting patents and claim charts.
- You preferably have experience with: artificial intelligence and machine learning; web technologies; social products, technologies, and platforms; and/or the mobile space.
- You are nimble, fast moving, and an excellent communicator. You have the ability to creatively think outside the box, articulate technical concepts in an easy-to-understand manner, and adapt and prioritize, while maintaining a big-picture focus on Reddit’s mission and goals. You're used to negotiating and collaborating effectively and have the ability to build strong relationships. You’re accountable and own the work you do.
- You have a J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) and are a member of at least one U.S. state bar.

In addition to base salary, this job is eligible to receive equity in the form of restricted stock units, and depending on the position offered, it may also be eligible to receive a commission.
