Associate Product Counsel
Job Description
Vimeo is looking for a highly motivated lawyer with deep technology experience who can work closely with product and marketing teams to provide strategic legal guidance on a wide range of issues, including integrations, payments, privacy, copyright, accessibility, and emerging technologies. This role will challenge teams to build innovative, compliant technology solutions on a global scale while supporting a fast-paced product development cycle and enabling scalable growth. This is a unique opportunity to help shape cutting-edge technology while mitigating legal risks and fostering responsible innovation.
What you will do:
- Lead and support cross-functional projects related to product compliance, data governance, privacy and safety by design, and consumer protection, ensuring all legal requirements are fully integrated into product development workflows as laws, industry standards, and best practices evolve.
- Drive the completion of product reviews, readiness assessments, privacy impact assessments, and other internal documentation, while coordinating the implementation of legal controls, user notices, and disclosures.
- Review product integrations with third-party platforms to ensure compliance with contractual obligations, data protection laws, intellectual property rights, and other relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
- Advise on payment processing features and marketplace functionality, focusing on global compliance with automatic renewal laws, AML, KYC, and payment industry standards, including PCI-DSS, while mitigating risks associated with fraud and user liability.
- Guide teams on content monetization, copyright, and privacy issues (particularly related to data analytics, minors, and age-verification frameworks).
- Ensure products meet accessibility standards by communicating clear requirements and identifying legal risks early in the product development process.
- Review marketing collateral for compliance with advertising standards and intellectual property rights.
Skills and knowledge you should possess:
- Admitted to practice law in NY (or have the ability to be admitted as authorized in-house counsel in NY).
- 3+ years of practice advising technology companies; some in-house experience preferred.
- Well versed with SaaS/cloud technology.
- Experience in privacy compliance, audit, or project management.
- Working knowledge of consumer protection laws and data privacy regulations including GDPR and CCPA.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams to achieve ambitious goals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High attention to detail, influencing, and problem resolution skills.
- Privacy certifications (CIPP-E, CIPP-US, CIPM), or willingness to obtain one within the first 6 months of employment.
Base Salary Range:
NYC Metro, Bay Area, Seattle, & Los Angeles: $143,000- $197,000
All other US cities outside above metro areas: $128,700- $177,300
