Job Description:
We're looking for a detail-oriented Back-End Developer with hands-on experience in Velocity Template Language (VTL) and marketing platforms token logic. You’ll be responsible for building, debugging, and maintaining dynamic content modules used in email and landing page personalization within a marketing platform. This is a technical role deeply embedded in marketing automation, and ideal for developers who enjoy solving complex personalization and logic challenges in a data-rich environment.
This is a contract, hourly role—perfect for experienced professionals who enjoy fast-paced, high-impact work and want the flexibility to engage in meaningful, cutting-edge client initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain dynamic content blocks using Velocity Template Language (VTL).
- Create and manage custom token logic and script tokens in a marketing platform.
- Leverage the marketing platform data model (leads, fields, custom objects) to personalize assets at scale.
- Format personalized email and landing page content using HTML and CSS.
- Implement fallback logic, segmentation handling, and conditional content rendering.
- Collaborate with Marketing Operations and Campaign teams to define personalization requirements.
- Debug and troubleshoot dynamic content using a marketing platform preview mode and test scenarios.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in back-end development or marketing automation logic building.
- Proficient in Velocity Template Language (VTL): control structures, variable handling, and logic flow.
- Strong understanding of marketing platform tokens, custom script tokens, and how to use them effectively.
- Familiarity with email marketing concepts: segmentation, personalization, fallback handling.
- Comfortable writing clean HTML/CSS for email and landing page content structure.
- Strong logical thinking and fluency in Java-like logic structures (Java knowledge not required).
- Ability to work independently, troubleshoot quickly, and document token logic for non-technical users.
