Senior Feather Grooming Artist

This position is based in Vancouver. All applicants must reside in British Columbia, Canada.

Position Overview

We are currently seeking a Senior Feather Grooming Artistto join the team. This is a 4-6 week project-based position that will help create feathers for a CG character. The Grooming Artist reports to the project CG Supervisors and Character Supervisor.

Responsibilities:

  • Create complex feather and fur simulations for characters - both humans and creatures
  • Use Houdini for grooming
  • Work closely with other departments to ensure grooms created work through the pipeline
  • Implement best practices, and anticipate potential problems
  • Developing shaders and general look development
  • Sharing knowledge with other artists, and assisting in producing training documentation
  • Work with pipeline and tools department to assist in the development of proprietary tool sets around grooming and simulating

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Houdini
  • Ability to create cg feather/fur and hair simulations
  • Experience troubleshooting feather/fur requirements on shot-by-shot basis
  • Ability to work self-directed and follow specific direction when given
  • Experience with both organic and hard surface modeling
  • 5 + years’ experience within TV and film VFX pipeline
  • Photorealistic texturing experience
  • Knowledge of V-ray an asset
  • Up-to-date reel
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Strong attention to detail and follow through.
  • Positive attitude, hard worker, flexible schedule for deliveries
  • Pro-active team member who demonstrates a strong sense of creativity and respect for aesthetics
  • Candidates must provide updated reel showcasing grooming specific work.
  • Simulating cloth and other dynamics systems a plus!

Additional information

  • British Columbia Senior Employees Pay Range: $50 - $65(The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location of the position)
  • Candidates MUST be located in British Columbia, Canada. At the moment this is a remote (work from home) position with the option of working within our studio.
  • Zoic does not cover relocation costs.
  • All remote positions require the candidate to have a reliable internet connection via ethernet and work on Pacific Standard Time.
