We are looking for a Clinical Safety Officer to join our Health Economics & Outcomes Research team. You will own the operational and strategic oversight of safety monitoring for human use research, and lead the qualitative research activities to train, evaluate, and improve the safety and efficacy of the next generation of digital mental health tools.

What you’ll be doing

  • Collaborate with data and engineering teams, using your clinical expertise to improve automated identification and response to clinical risk events in text data from digital tools
  • Develop and maintain the comprehensive safety monitoring plan across research studies developing the next generation of digital mental health tooling
  • Oversee adverse event (AE) and serious adverse event (SAE) management, ensuring collection, evaluation, and reporting per ICH-GCP and local regulations
  • Interface with IRB, DSMB, and other safety monitoring boards
  • Train study teams on safety processes, reporting timelines, and GCP requirements; serve as the escalation point for safety issues
  • Conduct qualitative interviews with participants to capture real-world clinical safety and efficacy insights and refine monitoring protocols

What success looks like in this role:

  • Developing and owning the processes to ensure safety in human use research
  • 100% on-time submission of safety reports to IRB/DSMB
  • High satisfaction scores from IRB/DSMB and internal stakeholders on safety documentation and responsiveness
  • Driving observational coding studies to completion
  • Translation of participant interview findings into clinical insights that inform tool development

What we expect from you

  • Licensed Psychologist (PhD or PsyD) with 5+ years of post-licensure experience
  • 2+ years of clinical safety oversight experience, ideally in digital health or AI-enabled tools
  • Demonstrated experience coding live clinical sessions or transcripts to evaluate treatment fidelity and annotate key therapeutic processes
  • Prior experience engaging with IRB, DSMB, or other safety monitoring boards
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to translate complex safety findings for varied audiences

What we’d love to see (Bonus)

  • Hands-on experience with qualitative research methods—interview design, moderation, and thematic analysis
  • Background in deploying automated safety monitoring or alerting systems
  • Publications or presentations on patient safety or digital health research
  • Passion for advancing AI ethics and safety in clinical settings

The target base salary range for this position is $120,000 - $150,250, and is part of a competitive total rewards package including stock options and benefits. Individual pay may vary from the target range and is determined by a number of factors including experience, location, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations. We review all employee pay and compensation programs annually using Radford Global Compensation Database at minimum to ensure competitive and fair pay.
