Role overview
As a Counsel reporting to the VP of Legal, you will play a vital role in supporting Brigit’s legal strategies and initiatives. You will leverage your experience to provide comprehensive legal advice on a variety of issues, including regulatory compliance, product counseling, and litigation management. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the growth of a forward-thinking fintech company while navigating the complexities of the financial services landscape.
What you’ll be doing
Navigate legal and regulatory requirements, operational issues, and related matters.
Advise cross-functional teams including product, marketing, design, and engineering on product development and ongoing compliance.
Conduct legal research and analysis to support business initiatives and ensure adherence to applicable laws and regulations.
Manage litigation and dispute resolution processes, across all stakeholders, coordinating with external legal counsel as necessary.
Stay up-to-date of changes in laws and regulations that could impact the company's operations and provide guidance on necessary adjustments.
Review customer facing agreements, disclosures, marketing, and other materials for ongoing compliance.
What you have
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
Active license with a state bar and authorization to practice law in the state of New York
Minimum of 3 years of in-house or firm experience in the consumer finance industry (Credit, Banking, Payments, etc.) – Fintech/Earned Wage Access experience preferred.
Demonstrated experience in litigation, including managing cases from inception through resolution and coordinating with outside counsel.
Knowledge of regulatory and compliance matters related to banking and financial services, including state and federal investigations.
Knowledge of state and federal laws including but not limited to TILA, UDAAP, ECOA, Reg E, and state licensing laws, as well as GLBA, CCPA, and other state privacy laws.
Experience advising and collaborating with cross-functional teams on the development of web/app based products and services.
Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.
A bias toward action and solving problems, not just issue spotting.
The ability to take ownership over work and manage projects independently with strong attention to detail.
Demonstrated success in efficiently resolving complex business issues by collaborating effectively across business units and internal functions.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
Compensation
The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $125,000 - $165,000. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits for which an individual may be eligible (other benefits listed below). The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
