About the role:

The Credit Strategy Lead will help support the Credit Department in implementing strategy and process improvement across our lending platform. It is critical for this person to be able to operate in a fast-paced environment and juggle competing projects.

What you'll do:

  • Strengthen our portfolio management tools to help us get ahead of potential delinquencies/defaults.
  • Assist the Credit team in identifying process gaps and implementing improvements.
  • Partner with our risk operations team to manage payment failures and triage escalations.
  • Serve as a cross-functional partner between credit, finance, capital markets, and risk operations to ensure accurate reporting for our borrowing facilities.
  • Work closely with our data and engineering teams to incorporate new data sets into our underwriting models (including building relationships with third-party data vendors).
  • Build out monthly credit reporting dashboards.
  • Periodically perform underwriting audits to ensure we are complying with our internal policies.

What you'll need:

  • 3+ years of commercial underwriting experience at a bank, financial institution, or fintech company.
  • Thorough analysis of financial statements (P&L, BS, CF) and metrics.
  • Experience underwriting/managing asset-based loans, term loans, factoring facilities, merchant cash advances, credit cards, or other loan products.
  • Strong background in Excel and SQL, writing/modifying query logic beyond simply using existing pre-written queries.
  • Meticulously detail-oriented, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Self-starter mentality; work autonomously and lead projects with limited oversight.
  • Be resourceful and thrive in dynamic, rapidly evolving environments.
  • Critical thinker who can digest complex problems, weigh competing factors, articulate risks, and solve with cross-functional stakeholders.

Nice to have:

  • Fintech/startup experience.
  • Prior portfolio management and/or workout experience handling distressed or underperforming assets, like:
    • Non-performing loans (NPLs)
    • Troubled real estate or business investments
  • Workout specialists aim to recover value through:
    • Restructuring debt
    • Renegotiating terms
    • Selling off assets
    • Foreclosure or repossession

Compensation:

This role offers an annual base salary range of $110,000 - $160,000 + equity + benefits. Actual compensation will be determined by various factors, including your skills and experience.

Safe Remote Job Search Tips

Verify Employer Thoroughly

Research the company's identity thoroughly before applying. Check for a professional website with contacts, active social media, and LinkedIn profiles. Verify details across platforms and look for reviews on Glassdoor or Trustpilot to confirm legitimacy.

Never Pay to Get a Job

Legitimate employers never require payment for applications, training, background checks, or equipment. Always reject upfront payment requests or demands for bank details, even if they claim it's for purchasing necessary work gear on your behalf.

Safeguard Your Personal Information

Protect sensitive data like SSN, bank details, or ID copies. Share this only after accepting a formal, written job offer. Ensure it's submitted via a secure company system or portal, never through insecure channels like standard email attachments.

Scrutinize Communication & Interviews

Watch for communication red flags: poor grammar, generic emails (@gmail), vague details, or undue pressure. Be highly suspicious of interviews held only via text or chat apps; legitimate companies typically use video or phone calls.

Beware of Unrealistic Offers

If an offer's salary or benefits seem unrealistically high for the work involved, be cautious. Research standard pay for similar roles. Offers that appear 'too good to be true' are often scams designed to lure you into providing information or payment.

Insist on a Formal Contract

Always secure and review a formal, written job offer or employment contract before starting work or sharing final personal details. Ensure it clearly defines your role, compensation, key terms, and conditions to avoid misunderstandings or scams.
