Job Description
Insomniac is looking for a talented leader to shape the vision of the gameplay department as the Director of Gameplay Management. This department head will be responsible for guiding a world-class team of gameplay programmers to achieve excellent results across the studio’s full project portfolio while collaborating with studio leaders to set goals and policies.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:
- Define and implement the studio’s gameplay programming vision, strategy, and goals
- Manage and develop programming directors, managers, and leads
- Set standards for department hiring, onboarding, career-pathing, goal setting, performance managing, staffing, and scheduling
- Review milestone builds to identify key development challenges
- Foster a collaborative engineering culture that maintains the quality of the codebase
- Collaborate with technical leaders across Insomniac and PlayStation to identify opportunities for innovation and drive towards the future
Skills you should bring to this role:
- A track record of successful large team leadership
- Contemporary management skills oriented both towards the big picture and operational detail
- A strong critical eye for detail and the ability to communicate effectively with the team to resolve issues
- An engineering background, with experience as an individual contributor in a programming role
- A leadership style that is marked by personal visibility, open communication, relationship building, collegiality, and teamwork
- Expertise in an application programming language, with an understanding of current best practices for AAA gameplay coding
The gameplay department at Insomniac works in exciting problem spaces:
- Creating novel traversal in large open worlds
- Prototyping compelling core gameplay mechanics
- Building engaging systems and features
- Crafting thrilling combat actions and enemy behaviors in third-person action encounters
- Developing a cohesive game feel in partnership with design, animation, vfx, and audio

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.
Base pay is one component of our total compensation package. Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location, as well as additional compensation components, such as annual bonus, profit sharing, and other incentive plans.
