Job Description

The big picture: Axios is a media company dedicated to providing trustworthy, award-winning news content in an audience-first format. We are looking for a results-driven, Director of Client Management to join our Axios Live team!

Why it matters: The Director of Client Management will lead a high-performing team, steward our most valuable partnerships, and focus on client retention by maintaining the pipeline between post-event back to presale.

Go deeper: The Director will manage and mentor a team of 3-4 associate directors to achieve operational excellence. Other responsibilities include:

  • Client Stewardship: Serve as the primary point of contact for top-tier event partners at the 300K+ level, delivering exceptional client experiences, post event metrics and ongoing cultivation efforts for retention.
  • Event leadership: ​​Manage event logistics from contract signature through to final excellent execution on select key events throughout the year.
    • Concurrently maintain event logistics, client relationships, and deliverables and ensure we remain true to our editorial standards while also working alongside sponsors for their defined integrations.
  • Strategic Collaboration:
    • Partner with marketing, production, and operations to communicate and exceed client expectations
    • Work in lock step with sales and revenue team to understand the business imperatives of all clients
  • Client Retention and Client pipeline: Serve as the link between post-event debrief from the Axios Live team back to presale staff:
    • Tracking all relationships from post event back to Client Partnership lead.
    • Offer strategic recommendations related to event operational elements to improve in-room and beyond impact.

  • A seasoned events professional with a track record of managing complex, concurrent, high-revenue partnerships while moving at a fast pace.
  • A natural leader who can inspire and elevate team performance.
  • A strategic thinker with strong attention to detail and a commitment to operational excellence.
  • An expert relationship-manager who can maintain cross-departmental internal and external stakeholders.
  • 10+ years of high volume, fast-paced events experience
  • Proven track record of client/ relationship management experience
  • A creative vision
  • A deep understanding of end-to-end event lifecycle management
  • Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills
  • Experience supporting or mentoring junior team members
  • Positive attitude and ability to thrive in a high-pressure environment
  • Desire to work hard, learn new skills, and grow professionally
  • Willingness to work occasional early mornings and late nights
  • Willingness to travel regularly
  • Project management software experience is a plus

Starting salary for this role is in the range of $100,000 - $120,000 and is dependent on numerous factors, including but not limited to location, work experience, and skills. This range does not include other compensation and benefits. Axios' compensation philosophy takes into account cost of labor differentials across the country. Because this is a remote-optional job posting, this salary range takes into account all possible locations within the United States, but candidates will only be eligible for the salary range for their location.
