The Role:

Carrot is seeking a results-driven Director of Communications with a passion for storytelling and strong PR experience. In this role, you will lead Carrot’s external communications strategy under the direction of the VP of Marketing. This includes media relations, executive thought leadership, speaking engagements, awards, social media, and more. You’ll develop and implement communication strategies to ensure that unified, consistent, and positive messages define and promote Carrot’s mission — fertility care for all. You’ll work closely with cross-functional partners, including executive leaders, customer success, commercial, product, and other teams.

The Team:

This role sits on our Marketing team, reporting to our VP of Marketing. Carrot’s Marketing team is responsible for sharing the Carrot story with the world.

Responsibilities:

  • Set and execute a data-driven communication strategy aligned with company goals
  • Develop executive communication campaigns with clear KPIs that drive long-term business success
  • Lead executive thought leadership opportunities, including media interviews, op-eds, social media, speaking engagements, and awards
  • Identify relevant news angles and develop proactive communication plans
  • Write and distribute pitches, press releases, and announcements
  • Organize press events, prepare executive spokespeople, and create briefing materials
  • Develop original surveys and own report writing. Leverage data-driven insights to pitch media and reach other key audiences, including customers, prospects, and members.
  • Manage our PR agency partner to enhance executive visibility and media exposure
  • Foster collaboration across departments to align communications with business goals
  • Seek new channels, partnerships, and initiatives to expand Carrot’s reach
  • Optimize resource allocation for communication initiatives, balancing budget, talent, and timelines
  • Proactively identify and address potential roadblocks, risks, and reputation challenges
  • Foster relationships with existing healthcare, business, and technology press, and expand media relationships to new outlets and contacts
  • Own outcomes and results, addressing challenges proactively and adjusting strategies as needed
  • Regularly measure and report on communications performance using defined metrics



Minimum Qualifications:

  • 10-12 years of communications experience, including executive thought leadership, earned and owned media, etc.
  • Strong media relationships across business, trade, and consumer outlets
  • Exceptional communicator with excellent writing skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to distill complex data and research into clear, compelling content
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in healthcare and media
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Comfort with the ambiguity inherent in a fast-paced startup environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in healthcare and/or workplace benefits
  • Global PR background
  • Experience managing external partners, including PR agencies and freelance writers
  • Crisis and issues management experience
  • In-house PR or media experience



Compensation:

Carrot offers a holistic Total Rewards package designed to support our employees in all aspects of their life inside and outside of work, including health and wellness benefits, retirement savings plans, short- and long-term incentives, parental leave, family-forming assistance, and a competitive compensation package. The starting base salary for this position will range from $140,00-$150,000 Actual compensation may vary from posted base salary depending on your confirmed job-related skills and experience.
