Job Description
Director of Engineering
GoodParty.org is looking for a Director of Engineering to help reinvent civic leadership in America. You’ll lead and grow a mission-driven engineering team, ship ambitious 0 to 1 products, and integrate AI at the core of everything we build.
This is a rare chance to steer the technical strategy at a high-growth, fully funded startup tackling one of the most urgent problems of our time. You’ll partner closely with our founding CTO, operate with autonomy, and shape a product and engineering culture that values velocity, innovation, and impact.
AboutGoodParty.org:
GoodParty.org is on a mission to make people matter more than money in our democracy by empowering independent candidates to run, win, and serve. Our AI-powered platform provides free tools to independent candidates to run their campaigns, connect with voters, and serve their communities effectively.
A majority of eligible voters, including more than half of Millennials and Gen Z, say that neither Republicans nor Democrats represent them.GoodParty.org is the solution. In 2024 we empowered 3,444 independent candidates wins across 48 states from all across the ideological spectrum. The only things our elected officials have in common is that they prioritize people over parties and community over corporate interests. In 2024, 40.3 million voters (26% of all voters) cast a ballot for our candidates. We’re not a political party, we’re a platform and a movement to democratize democracy.
Founded by serial entrepreneur Farhad Mohit ($1B+ in exits, including Flipagram/TikTok and Shopzilla),GoodParty.org is building solutions so we can have a truly representative democracy where society’s biggest problems are solved.
What you’ll do:
Lead and empower a mission-critical engineering team, balancing strategic scaling of core systems with ground-up innovation to tackle new challenges.
Recruit, lead, and develop top-tier Frontend, Backend, and QA engineers, fostering individual growth, overseeing performance, and continuously advancing AI fluency in an ever-changing technological landscape.
Foster a fast-paced and collaborative culture where engineers feel empowered, supported, and see the impact of their work on democracy.
Collaborate on embedding AI deeply across our platform — from campaign tools to voter engagement features — in an empowering and responsible way.
Drive clarity and momentum by balancing speed with thoughtful decision-making — you know when to ship fast and when to invest in long-term scalability.
Partner closely with Product, Design, and Data teams to ideate, prototype, and ship user-facing features and internal tools quickly and iteratively.
Guide the team through ambiguity, building MVPs to test hypotheses, and continuously improving based on feedback and data.
Remove blockers, resolve technical challenges quickly, and keep teams focused on progress and outcomes. Leverage cutting-edge AI tools to accelerate development cycles, automate tasks, and support team productivity.
Champion best practices that enable speed and quality, including clean architecture, code reviews, and scalable patterns.
Balance leadership with technical contribution by dedicating approximately 25% of time to hands-on coding and architecture decisions.
Report directly to the founding CTO and play a critical role in shaping the engineering culture and roadmap at a high-growth stage.
Who we’re looking for:
You’re up for the audacious challenge of using technology to transform civic leadership in America and you believe we can do better than the two-party system.
You have 10+ years of engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, including managing both frontend and backend focused engineers and owning product delivery.
You’ve built and scaled products in a startup or early-stage environment, and know how to work through ambiguity.
You’re comfortable doing 0 to 1 work, leading greenfield builds, launching MVPs, and making pragmatic decisions with limited data.
You’re confident developing across our tech stack — React, Next.js, Node.js, Python, Postgres — and excited to lead in an AI-native environment.
You’ve worked with and are a champion of AI-native workflows for coding, including Cursor, OpenAI/Anthropic, Gemini/Perplexity, MCPs, and other similar tools.
You bring strong opinions loosely held and advocate for engineering excellence, but are open to evolving with new ideas and team input.
You have a track record of creating inclusive team cultures, mentoring engineers, and building feedback loops.
You thrive in a remote, fast-paced environment, balancing strategic thinking with a bias toward action.
You communicate clearly, directly, respectfully, and you’re open to delivering and receiving candid feedback that helps the team grow.
Bonus if:
You have experience working or volunteering in civic tech, democracy reform, campaigns, or social impact.
You’ve contributed to open-source projects or developer communities.
You’re sick of sitting on the sidelines watching our democracy fail to meet its potential.
Why you should work at GoodParty.org:

Verify Employer Thoroughly
Research the company's identity thoroughly before applying. Check for a professional website with contacts, active social media, and LinkedIn profiles. Verify details across platforms and look for reviews on Glassdoor or Trustpilot to confirm legitimacy.
Never Pay to Get a Job
Legitimate employers never require payment for applications, training, background checks, or equipment. Always reject upfront payment requests or demands for bank details, even if they claim it's for purchasing necessary work gear on your behalf.
Safeguard Your Personal Information
Protect sensitive data like SSN, bank details, or ID copies. Share this only after accepting a formal, written job offer. Ensure it's submitted via a secure company system or portal, never through insecure channels like standard email attachments.
Scrutinize Communication & Interviews
Watch for communication red flags: poor grammar, generic emails (@gmail), vague details, or undue pressure. Be highly suspicious of interviews held only via text or chat apps; legitimate companies typically use video or phone calls.
Beware of Unrealistic Offers
If an offer's salary or benefits seem unrealistically high for the work involved, be cautious. Research standard pay for similar roles. Offers that appear 'too good to be true' are often scams designed to lure you into providing information or payment.
Insist on a Formal Contract
Always secure and review a formal, written job offer or employment contract before starting work or sharing final personal details. Ensure it clearly defines your role, compensation, key terms, and conditions to avoid misunderstandings or scams.
