About the Role

Brightfield is seeking a hands-on Director of Engineering to lead the development and growth of our AI-powered platform, TDX. This role requires strong engineering leadership, AI operationalization and platform architecture experience—ideal for a seasoned leader who can build and commercialize products, scale teams, accelerate deployments and implement engineering best practices for a high-growth SaaS platform.

You will lead day-to-day engineering execution and team management, driving the scalability, usability, and AI capabilities of the TDX platform. Partnering closely with Product and Data leaders, you’ll ensure delivery of impactful solutions that meet customer needs. This role is ideal for someone eager to build and lead a world-class engineering team. You will report directly to the CTO.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and grow a high-performing, remote engineering team with a strong culture of ownership, collaboration, and delivery.
  • Drive execution across product development cycles, ensuring high standards around code quality, testing, monitoring, and deployment.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product and Data to prioritize work, align on delivery timelines, and ensure technical feasibility.
  • Oversee operationalization of AI models and data workflows within the TDX platform.
  • Champion agile engineering processes that improve velocity and technical rigor.
  • Track and report on engineering throughput, team health, and technical metrics.
  • Guide engineers through critical design and code review processes.
  • Drive scrum meetings with engineering teams.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, learning, and technical excellence.

What You Bring

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with 3+ years in a leadership role.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills—comfortable working across disciplines and with executive stakeholders.
  • Proven success building and scaling engineering teams in a SaaS environment.
  • Strong experience deploying AI/ML capabilities within production software systems.
  • Familiarity with enterprise data platforms, distributed systems, and cloud-native technologies (AWS preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to implement engineering best practices that balance speed and quality.
  • Experience with CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and monitoring practices.
  • Expertise in technologies such as Python, Snowflake, and LLM/ML frameworks is a plus.

Safe Remote Job Search Tips

Verify Employer Thoroughly

Research the company's identity thoroughly before applying. Check for a professional website with contacts, active social media, and LinkedIn profiles. Verify details across platforms and look for reviews on Glassdoor or Trustpilot to confirm legitimacy.

Never Pay to Get a Job

Legitimate employers never require payment for applications, training, background checks, or equipment. Always reject upfront payment requests or demands for bank details, even if they claim it's for purchasing necessary work gear on your behalf.

Safeguard Your Personal Information

Protect sensitive data like SSN, bank details, or ID copies. Share this only after accepting a formal, written job offer. Ensure it's submitted via a secure company system or portal, never through insecure channels like standard email attachments.

Scrutinize Communication & Interviews

Watch for communication red flags: poor grammar, generic emails (@gmail), vague details, or undue pressure. Be highly suspicious of interviews held only via text or chat apps; legitimate companies typically use video or phone calls.

Beware of Unrealistic Offers

If an offer's salary or benefits seem unrealistically high for the work involved, be cautious. Research standard pay for similar roles. Offers that appear 'too good to be true' are often scams designed to lure you into providing information or payment.

Insist on a Formal Contract

Always secure and review a formal, written job offer or employment contract before starting work or sharing final personal details. Ensure it clearly defines your role, compensation, key terms, and conditions to avoid misunderstandings or scams.
