About the Role:
The Director of Technical Accounting and Reporting is a highly visible role that reports to the Chief Accounting Officer with high visibility to the CFO and broader executive team. The candidate will own external reporting and help to build and maintain the Company’s accounting policies, lead the preparation of consolidated financial statements (including Form S-1) and address technical accounting issues arising from business transactions or the implementation of new accounting pronouncements. The candidate will be self-motivated with the ability to provide solutions for issues identified. A successful candidate is a highly competent team player with integrity, accountability, and strong interpersonal skills. The position requires a “hands-on” person who is flexible and able to work well in a high growth environment.
What You'll Do:
- Oversee the preparation and review of Motive’s consolidated financial statements, including S-1 filings and potential future SEC filings (including Forms 10-K and 10-Q).
- Develop and maintain Motive’s accounting policies in accordance with US GAAP
- Assess all non-revenue related technical accounting issues for appropriate accounting treatment under US GAAP. Proactively identify, research, consult and prepare technical memos on complex / judgmental technical accounting issues
- Own equity and stock-based compensation accounting including the related disclosures
- Provide guidance for operationalizing the capitalization of software development costs
- Support the development and maintenance of effective internal controls
- Be a proactive liaison with external auditors to drive timely closure of technical accounting matters and interim/year end audits
- Continued development of our technical accounting personnel, systems, and procedures to enhance the accuracy and timing of quarterly deliverables
- Be a trusted business partner and advisor to various stakeholders within Finance and Accounting and across the company
- Lead and assist with other special projects as needed
What We're Looking For:
- BA or BS in finance/accounting. CPA is required
- Experience with public company SEC financial reporting essential
- 10+ years of relevant accounting experience in SaaS / Technology Industry and Public Accounting
- Excellent knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including ability to research accounting literature, establish a position and develop procedures for implementation
- Prior experience designing, implementing, and documenting policies and procedures
- Be able to think creatively to overcome challenges and implement vision
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong ability to manage relationships, think critically and solve problems
- Proven ability to challenge the status quo
- Strong project management, analytical and organizational skills
