Job Description
The role:
Sure, you know your way around payroll ledgers, but are you ready to build, design, automate, and herd cats across time zones? As our Global Payroll Manager, you’ll command the payroll ops air traffic control tower for employees and contractors spanning the globe. Spoiler: Our favorite currency is compliance but we pay in cash too.
You'll partner with People, Finance, and Legal, working hand-in-hand to ensure every paycheck is accurate, legal, timely and that nobody needs to ping you at midnight to ask why their bonus went to someone else's direct deposit.
What you’ll do:
- Lead and Own: Command the entire payroll process, both regular and off-cycle, for our global roster of employees and contractors.
- Be the Expert: From bonuses and taxes to benefits and currencies, you'll be our go-to guru for all things payroll, ensuring compliance with federal, state, local, and international payroll regulations.
- Audit with Precision: Scrutinize payroll journals, prepare reconciliations, and handle variances with the accuracy of a seasoned detective.
- Solve with a Smile: Respond to payroll inquiries quickly, clearly, and with a touch of the meme-tastic.
- Manage with Authority: Hold third-party payroll providers accountable even wielding your inner payroll Jedi when needed.
- Innovate and Automate: Identify process gaps and inefficiencies, champion automation, and never settle for the dreaded "we’ve always done it this way."
- Support and Partner: Collaborate with People, Finance, and Legal teams to ensure payroll operations are smooth, compliant, and ready to scale.
What we're looking for:
- Detail-Oriented Dynamo: Your attention to detail is legendary, and the phrase “Oops, I forgot” is not in your vocabulary.
- Workday Whiz: You’re a seasoned pro in Workday.
- Experienced: You’ve spent 5+ years in hands-on payroll management in a global environment.
- Unflappable: You keep your cool under pressure and can juggle shifting priorities effortlessly.
- Strong Communicator: Whether it’s breaking down complex topics or sending off a clever GIF, you’re skilled at getting your point across.
- Global Payroll Providers: You've got experience with Deel or similar platforms.
- Startup Star: While not required, experience in a fast-paced startup environment will help you hit the ground running.
- Automation Enthusiast: You’ve handled multi-country payroll and love finding ways to streamline and automate everything.

Verify Employer Thoroughly
Research the company's identity thoroughly before applying. Check for a professional website with contacts, active social media, and LinkedIn profiles. Verify details across platforms and look for reviews on Glassdoor or Trustpilot to confirm legitimacy.
Never Pay to Get a Job
Legitimate employers never require payment for applications, training, background checks, or equipment. Always reject upfront payment requests or demands for bank details, even if they claim it's for purchasing necessary work gear on your behalf.
Safeguard Your Personal Information
Protect sensitive data like SSN, bank details, or ID copies. Share this only after accepting a formal, written job offer. Ensure it's submitted via a secure company system or portal, never through insecure channels like standard email attachments.
Scrutinize Communication & Interviews
Watch for communication red flags: poor grammar, generic emails (@gmail), vague details, or undue pressure. Be highly suspicious of interviews held only via text or chat apps; legitimate companies typically use video or phone calls.
Beware of Unrealistic Offers
If an offer's salary or benefits seem unrealistically high for the work involved, be cautious. Research standard pay for similar roles. Offers that appear 'too good to be true' are often scams designed to lure you into providing information or payment.
Insist on a Formal Contract
Always secure and review a formal, written job offer or employment contract before starting work or sharing final personal details. Ensure it clearly defines your role, compensation, key terms, and conditions to avoid misunderstandings or scams.
