About the Role

The Group Underwriter will provide subject matter expertise in underwriting groups and will oversee the company’s underwriting process for groups of all funding types and sizes.

What You’ll Do

  • Recommend underwriting policies and process designs that address critical trends and changes in the industry, as well as departmental and/or product line long-term goals, to ensure alignment with key company strategies
  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to approve risk selection and acceptance, coverage, and pricing
  • Recommend creative alternatives regarding rating plans, coverages, and payment plans
  • Analyze the quality and quantity of risks underwritten and prepare reports accordingly
  • Review profit/growth results and trends to recommend and implement action plans to produce growth with profitable underwriting results. Identify trends/issues and offer solutions on issues, including appeals and exceptions, to meet customer needs while ensuring alignment with business strategies

What You’ll Bring

  • 2+ years of experience in an underwriting role, preferably in health insurance
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to demonstrate attention to detail
  • Ability to think of and implement creative solutions to business problems
  • Highly developed knowledge of the underwriting function
  • General awareness of current affairs, industry issues, and trends, both corporate and external
  • Solid knowledge of insurance contract law and state legislative requirements
  • Strong knowledge of insurance products (plans, riders, benefits), and illustrations, and how they are marketed
  • Knowledge of the reinsurance marketplace to work proactively with the field where reinsurance is an opportunity
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and with minimal supervision
  • Enthusiasm and positive attitude
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Bachelor's Degree

In taking a market-based approach to compensation, base pay may vary depending on location. Additionally, base pay may vary considerably depending on job-related skills and experience.The current expected salary range for this position is: $95,000 - $110,000.
