About the Role

As an iOS Engineer at Instacart, you will play a key role in developing features for our Shopper iOS app. With hundreds of thousands of Shoppers depending on Instacart for their work, your contributions will be crucial in scaling and improving the mobile experience to cater to their specific needs. This position focuses on leading the architecture, design, and development of our iOS application, ensuring they provide the high performance and reliability our Shoppers depend on.

About the Team

The Shopper team develops and manages our Shopper app, used by hundreds of thousands of shoppers every day to fulfill customer orders. The team oversees the entire process, from onboarding new shoppers to implementing in-store picking technology and enabling last-mile delivery navigation to ensure groceries reach customers' homes efficiently.

Overview of the Shopper teams that are currently hiring

In-store Team: This team focuses on developing Instacart’s picking technology and providing shoppers the tools to be more efficient at enabling quality orders for our customers. Example of things we build - In-store navigation experience for Shoppers, a seamless replacement flow with machine learning optimizations, and innovative features like StoreView, leveraging computer vision to improve our intelligent systems.
Delivery Team: This team handles the Instacart shopper’s experience after in-store checkout through dropping off the order at a customer’s address. We own the navigational process and all aspects of the handoff experience, including surfaces like customer geolocation, identity verification, handling unattended deliveries, and returns. Our primary goal is to optimize for perfect deliveries that are facilitated on time and without interruption, and we contribute to the company’s overall growth by driving additional profit on each order.

About the Job
  • Architect, build, and maintain complex iOS applications with clean code.
  • Implement perfect UIs that match designs.
  • Integrate with backend services to make sure we are delivering a great mobile user experience that is super-fast for end users.
  • Own important pieces of the product that have high visibility both internally and externally.
  • Participate in code reviews to maintain high development standards
  • Communicate and collaborate extensively across multiple teams and functions within the company to drive consensus, align goals, and achieve effective cross-functional outcomes.

About You

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years of iOS development experience.
  • Extensive Experience with iOS fundamentals, including Swift, Swift UI, UIKit, RxSwift or Combine etc.
  • Experience with Networking protocols (RPC, Rest API, Websockets)
  • Proven ability in rigorous unit testing and practical problem-solving.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, capable of collaborating and influencing cross-functional teams.
  • Solid communicator, comfortable seeking and receiving feedback.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools like Datadog.
  • Skilled in profiling and performance optimization on mobile platforms.
  • Experience working on Apple technologies like Location, push notifications
  • The ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, designers, and PMs across multiple teams to co-develop impactful solutions while contributing to system improvements.

Instacart provides highly market-competitive compensation and benefits in each location where our employees work. This role is remote and the base pay range for a successful candidate is dependent on their permanent work location. Please review our Flex First remote work policy here. Currently, we are only hiring in the following provinces: Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, and Nova Scotia.

Offers may vary based on many factors, such as candidate experience and skills required for the role. Additionally, this role is eligible for a new hire equity grant as well as annual refresh grants. Please read more about our benefits offerings here.
