Job Description:
We are seeking an IP Patent Lawyer with experience in the medical device, biotech, and technology sectors to join our growing legal talent network. This role is ideal for a highly skilled legal professional with a strong background in patent prosecution, licensing, and IP strategy, particularly within medical devices and adjacent industries such as biotech, AI, and energy. The position offers flexibility for full-time or part-time work, and welcomes talent from across the U.S., with strong demand for those based on the East Coast or in Houston, TX.
Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic counsel on patent prosecution, freedom-to-operate analysis, and IP portfolio development across medical device, biotech, AI, and energy sectors.
- Draft, review, and negotiate IP-related agreements, including licensing deals, collaboration agreements, and technology transfers.
- Support IP due diligence for M&A transactions, including patent landscape reviews and integration strategies.
- Advise on patent strategy for AI-driven technologies and medical device innovations, ensuring global compliance and risk mitigation.
- Work closely with R&D, business, and legal teams to align IP protection with product development and commercialization goals.
- Monitor IP filings, portfolio maintenance, and competitive IP landscapes.
Minimum Qualifications:
- JD or equivalent with active bar membership in good standing.
- 3–8 years of experience in patent law, with a focus on medical devices or biotech.
- USPTO registration required.
- Background in engineering, life sciences, or related technical field preferred.
- Experience advising on IP licensing, M&A due diligence, and cross-border IP issues.
- Excellent drafting, analytical, and communication skills with the ability to work independently in a flexible or remote setting.
Preferred Skills:
- Prior in-house experience in the MedTech, biotech, or energy industries.
- Familiarity with technologies related to medical devices, diagnostics, or AI-integrated hardware/software.
- Experience supporting IP strategy for AI-enabled or software-driven medical devices.
- Strong knowledge of the medical device regulatory environment and patent lifecycle strategy.
- Houston-based candidates are a plus due to regional client demands; East Coast talent also strongly encouraged to apply.
Compensation, Benefits & Location:
This role offers a range of competitive compensation starting at $127,000, and a highly competitive benefits package in the alternative legal services marketplace that includes health benefits, 401k, and more.
