Job Description

1 big thing: We're hiring an experienced, innovative acquisition leader to drive our next phase of scale for Axios’ membership business. This expert will grow Axios Local memberships across 100+ cities and Axios subject-matter-expert memberships.

Why it Matters: Growing our membership base is key to building a sustainable future for independent, local, and mission-driven journalism. This role will shape how we deepen reader relationships and fuel expansion in communities and coverage areas that need it most.

The Details: The ideal candidate is a sharp, data-driven marketer who thrives at the intersection of storytelling and scale. Specific objectives are:

  • Build and optimize a full-funnel acquisition engine that will allow for scale across current and future Axios memberships.
  • Unlock price, paywall, and value proposition levers that meaningfully boost conversion and conversion rates.
  • Create and systematize high-impact testing loops — from creative to messaging to benefit positioning — that inform go-to-market strategy and accelerate growth.
  • Partner across product, design, and editorial to elevate how we communicate membership value and deliver seamless reader experiences.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop short- and long-term plans that achieve our consumer revenue growth goals
  • Build and execute lifecycle campaigns across email, web, newsletters, OOH and in-product placements, driving forward strategic product and content marketing campaigns.
  • Assist in pricing and paywall testing — testing configurations and promotions to boost conversion and LTV.
  • Identify and market value propositions and benefits that resonate with members and drive retention at scale through qualitative and quantitative analysis.
  • Partner across product, design, and editorial to refine onboarding, checkout, and creative assets.
  • Run structured A/B testing programs and feedback loops to inform messaging, benefit positioning, and creative.
  • Track performance and attribution across channels — and report out insights, KPIs, and areas for investment or improvement.
  • Help manage annual campaign calendars and coordinate messaging with broader growth efforts.
  • Bring sharp editorial judgment and ensure all copy stays on-brand and mission-aligned.

Skills & Experience

  • 5-8+ years of hands-on experience in growth, digital, or performance marketing.
  • Preference for experience in promoting products within a recurring revenue, subscription or membership business model, with a track record of success in this area.
  • A track record of owning strategy and execution, not just assisting with campaigns.
  • Proven experience in using email marketing as a key lever for growth.
  • Proven ability to drive cross-functional collaboration, aligning marketing strategies with broader business objectives.
  • Strong analytical skills and quantitative capabilities, utilizing data-driven decision-making to optimize marketing efforts, achieve subscription targets, and challenge assumptions through research and performance metrics.
  • Exhibit flexibility, adaptability, and strategic focus in a fast-paced, evolving environment, with the ability to pivot strategies in response to changing conditions.
  • Embrace an entrepreneurial and mission-driven mindset, ensuring the successful navigation of dynamic business landscapes.
  • Strong editorial sensibility.

Starting salary for this role is in the range of $105,000 - $125,000 and is dependent on numerous factors, including but not limited to location, work experience, and skills. This range does not include other compensation and benefits. Axios' compensation philosophy takes into account cost of labor differentials across the country. Because this is a remote-optional job posting, this salary range takes into account all possible locations within the United States, but candidates will only be eligible for the salary range for their location.

  • Access to the Axios “Family Fund”, which was created to allow employees to request financial support when facing financial hardship or emergencies
  • Increased work flexibility for parents and caretakers
  • Virtual company-sponsored social events
  • A strong and positive work environment
  • A commitment to an open, inclusive, and diverse work culture

Safe Remote Job Search Tips

Verify Employer Thoroughly

Research the company's identity thoroughly before applying. Check for a professional website with contacts, active social media, and LinkedIn profiles. Verify details across platforms and look for reviews on Glassdoor or Trustpilot to confirm legitimacy.

Never Pay to Get a Job

Legitimate employers never require payment for applications, training, background checks, or equipment. Always reject upfront payment requests or demands for bank details, even if they claim it's for purchasing necessary work gear on your behalf.

Safeguard Your Personal Information

Protect sensitive data like SSN, bank details, or ID copies. Share this only after accepting a formal, written job offer. Ensure it's submitted via a secure company system or portal, never through insecure channels like standard email attachments.

Scrutinize Communication & Interviews

Watch for communication red flags: poor grammar, generic emails (@gmail), vague details, or undue pressure. Be highly suspicious of interviews held only via text or chat apps; legitimate companies typically use video or phone calls.

Beware of Unrealistic Offers

If an offer's salary or benefits seem unrealistically high for the work involved, be cautious. Research standard pay for similar roles. Offers that appear 'too good to be true' are often scams designed to lure you into providing information or payment.

Insist on a Formal Contract

Always secure and review a formal, written job offer or employment contract before starting work or sharing final personal details. Ensure it clearly defines your role, compensation, key terms, and conditions to avoid misunderstandings or scams.
