Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced and pragmatic Manager of Infrastructure, Engineering & Architecture to take full ownership of a fragmented and underperforming IT estate. This is a critical role for a candidate who thrives in challenging environments, is confident rearchitecting legacy systems, and can deliver measurable improvements in performance, security, and stability.

You will be responsible for managing and mentoring a small team of engineers, leading the modernization of infrastructure platforms, enforcing technical policies, and delivering a scalable and secure cloud-first environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Azure, VDI, networking, and security, and will be comfortable operating with minimal direction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of all infrastructure services, including cloud, on-prem, network, endpoints, and user platforms.
  • Lead the assessment, rearchitecture, and remediation of inherited infrastructure issues to establish a modern, secure, and reliable baseline.
  • Define and implement enterprise-wide technical standards, documentation, and operating procedures across infrastructure and endpoint management.
  • Manage and optimize a hybrid Microsoft Azure environment, including conditional access policies, identity management, and security controls.
  • Lead the design, performance tuning, and support of VDI environments (e.g. Azure Virtual Desktop, Citrix, or VMware Horizon).
  • Ensure consistent and secure operation of all networking infrastructure including firewalls, VPNs, switches, and WAN connectivity.
  • Establish clear monitoring, patching, and incident response processes aligned with best practice and regulatory expectations.
  • Develop and deliver infrastructure roadmaps, collaborating with application, security, and service teams to support business goals.
  • Manage relationships with external vendors, MSPs, and tooling providers as required.

Required Experience

  • Strong experience remediating, rearchitecting, and stabilizing poorly implemented or neglected infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated leadership in hybrid or cloud-first environments using Microsoft Azure (ARM, conditional access, RBAC, policy, cost control).
  • Proficiency in building and managing VDI platforms, ensuring performance, resilience, and user adoption.
  • Deep understanding of networking, including Layer 2/3, firewall rule sets, VPNs, SD-WAN, and DNS/DHCP services.
  • Strong security mindset with hands-on experience in endpoint hardening, patching, device compliance, and access controls.
  • Experience implementing infrastructure-as-code and automation using PowerShell, Terraform, or equivalent tools.
  • Proven ability to lead engineering teams, drive accountability, and embed a proactive support culture.

Desirable Skills

  • Microsoft certifications (AZ-104, AZ-305, MS-500) or equivalent cloud infrastructure credentials.
  • Security certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or vendor equivalents.
  • Familiarity with identity federation, SSO, and device compliance within Microsoft 365 environments.
  • Experience with toolsets including Azure Monitor, Sentinel, Intune, Fortinet, Cisco, and backup/DR platforms.
  • Comfortable operating in regulated or multi-site environments with varied technical maturity.

Candidate Profile

  • Hands-on and delivery-oriented, with a proven ability to solve complex infrastructure challenges quickly and effectively.
  • Excellent communicator who can work across technical and non-technical teams and articulate infrastructure strategy to senior stakeholders.
  • Strong documentation habits and a clear focus on building resilient, supportable environments.
  • Thrives in high-change, low-structure settings where initiative and technical leadership are essential.

Safe Remote Job Search Tips

Verify Employer Thoroughly

Research the company's identity thoroughly before applying. Check for a professional website with contacts, active social media, and LinkedIn profiles. Verify details across platforms and look for reviews on Glassdoor or Trustpilot to confirm legitimacy.

Never Pay to Get a Job

Legitimate employers never require payment for applications, training, background checks, or equipment. Always reject upfront payment requests or demands for bank details, even if they claim it's for purchasing necessary work gear on your behalf.

Safeguard Your Personal Information

Protect sensitive data like SSN, bank details, or ID copies. Share this only after accepting a formal, written job offer. Ensure it's submitted via a secure company system or portal, never through insecure channels like standard email attachments.

Scrutinize Communication & Interviews

Watch for communication red flags: poor grammar, generic emails (@gmail), vague details, or undue pressure. Be highly suspicious of interviews held only via text or chat apps; legitimate companies typically use video or phone calls.

Beware of Unrealistic Offers

If an offer's salary or benefits seem unrealistically high for the work involved, be cautious. Research standard pay for similar roles. Offers that appear 'too good to be true' are often scams designed to lure you into providing information or payment.

Insist on a Formal Contract

Always secure and review a formal, written job offer or employment contract before starting work or sharing final personal details. Ensure it clearly defines your role, compensation, key terms, and conditions to avoid misunderstandings or scams.
