About the Role
This is a senior role providing comprehensive editorial oversight of our NFL news coverage, driving our unique reporting to produce distinct storytelling around the most prominent NFL topics and partnering with stakeholders across the editorial organization to optimize performance. The ideal candidate will have a strong affinity for the constant news cycle of the NFL and be driven to compete in that landscape.
- Manage a staff of reporters with an emphasis on the delivery of news and distinct reporting.
- Drive creative ideas around the daily NFL storylines to advance current news, explore new angles and provoke thoughtful discussions.
- Collaborate closely with video and audio producers to create a cohesive experience for the audience across all platforms and maximize the reach of our storytelling.
- Connect our national and beat reporting to elevate our coverage of what is happening in the NFL.
- Assist with big-picture, conceptual vision for the vertical, including generating and planning story ideas, and looking for opportunities to expand our coverage.
- Work to bring a distinctive, compelling, and authentic voice to all digital media products.
- Maintain an understanding and proficiency of engagement and subscription metrics.
- Maintain proficiency and knowledge of what makes a story successful with various audiences and platforms.
- Coordinate staffing assignments, editorial resources and process.
- Edit and publish stories via WordPress.
- 8+ years of experience in digital sports journalism, with experience at a management level.
- High-end knowledge of the NFL and drive to compete in a highly competitive landscape.
- Advanced ability to generate story ideas that result in solid growth in engagement.
- Works well with writers on strengthening ideas; strong sense of how to advance a single idea into a deeper story.
- Advanced understanding of the following editing tasks: reporting standards, copy editing, story structure, recognizing problematic sentences, style guidelines.
- Ability to add context to stories, edit in the writer's voice, ensure fairness.
- Expert ability to mentor writers and more inexperienced editors.
- This is a remote-based position based in the United States or Canada.
The annual base salary range for this role is $120,000.00 - $130,000.00 USD. The total compensation offered for this position may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skills, and location. It may also include non-cash rewards and benefits. The base salary range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
