Job Description
UMA is a nonprofit healthcare educational institution with a national presence. Headquartered in Tampa, Florida and founded in 1994, UMA offers content-rich, interactive online programs as well as hands-on training at our Clearwater, Florida campus.

Purpose of the Position:
The Instructor empowers students by delivering engaging and effective instruction and instructional support. The role will collaborate with program leaders and other departments to enhance student success, foster retention, support certification, celebrate graduation milestones, and facilitate successful career placements. The position will promote the overall well-being and integrity of our educational programs and our students.
What You’ll Do:
Unless specified otherwise, both adjunct and full-time Instructors will be expected to do the following:
- Deliver Centralized Curriculum: Teach the standardized distance education curriculum according to an assigned schedule.
- Adjunct Instructors are permitted to teach three or fewer classes at a time, must work fewer than 30 hours per week, and are required to schedule two synchronous office hours per week using the designated scheduling software and the provided virtual classroom tool.
- Full-time Instructors are expected to teach four or more classes at a time, work 30 or more hours per week, and are required to schedule five synchronous office hours per week using the designated scheduling software and the provided virtual classroom tool.
- Engage Students: Facilitate discussion forums and interactive course posts to promote student interaction and engagement. Host weekly office hours. Complete weekly outreach to students.
- Monitor Student Progress: Grade course activities and post grades weekly. Proactively track student performance and provide timely academic feedback.
- Support Student Success: Create learning support tools tailored to students’ demonstrated needs. Provide academic feedback in a constructive, positive, and timely manner. Perform weekly outreach to support student success.
- Maintain Professionalism: Adhere to policies, maintain an up-to-date faculty file, and communicate effectively with program leadership and students per established expectations and timelines.
- Subject Matter Expert: For full-time Instructors, serve as a subject matter expert on curriculum projects and mentor new instructors, as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Experience:
(Non-General Education Instructors)
- Bachelor’s degree from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
- An equivalent of 15 semester credit hours in the subject field taught.
- Academic preparation in the specific courses taught.
- 3+ years’ occupational experience.
- An industry certification/licensure if consistent with employment in the healthcare field of instruction (all certifications/licensures must remain active and be maintained as required by state and/or accrediting commissions).

- Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 credit hours in the assigned field of instruction.

- Experiential requirements set by any applicable accreditor, state licensing agency or other regulatory authority.
- Certification, licensure, registration, or other professional status set by any applicable accreditor, state licensing agency or other regulatory authority.
- Skills and abilities – communication and presentation skills, organization, people-orientation, time management, and high energy.
- Ability to work independently and with supervision.
- Ability to professionally communicate fluently in verbal and written English.
- Ability to contribute to a diverse and inclusive work environment.
- Computer literacy/basic computer skills to effectively navigate and utilize the technology required for the role.
Preferred Requirements:
- Any advanced degree in education, healthcare-related field, communication, nursing, or general studies.
- Experience applying adult learning principles and practices to online teaching.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other business tools such as Microsoft Teams.
- Other skills and abilities - Learning management systems, student information systems, synchronous instructional tools, ability to inspire students to meet career goals by tying course curriculum to potential career outcomes.
Compliance:
- Demonstrate knowledge of and carefully follow all applicable state laws and rules federal and state compliance requirements and regulations including those prescribed by the U.S. Department of Education, accrediting agencies, state regulations, and internal policies and procedures.
- Effectively communicate compliance requirements to other staff as appropriate and quickly escalate any compliance concerns to the Compliance department.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
- This is a remote position.
- Home office set up, quiet place to work, ability to be on camera, and ability to hard wire into high-speed internet connection.
- May require setup of computer equipment; accommodation consideration available upon request.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, as needed.
Anticipated starting salary is based on experience and qualifications.
