Shift5 is seeking a Platform Engineer to join our expanding team either remotely OR at our VA Headquarters, just minutes from Washington, DC. In this critical role, you will be responsible for building, deploying, and supporting solutions that operate seamlessly across edge compute devices and cloud environments.
An active US Government TS clearance (and willingness to maintain) or an ability to obtain one will be required for this position.
Core Responsibilities:
Engineer: Build deployment solutions that can operate efficiently on edge devices and also seamlessly within cloud environments. This includes designing, deploying, and supporting cloud-native architectures using container orchestration, infrastructure-as-code, and automation tools, while ensuring compatibility and performance in Linux-based edge computing setups.
Integrate: Configure and combine existing Shift5 software components to build cohesive solutions that operate reliably on edge computing devices and scalable infrastructure. This includes assembling components to create data pipelines tailored to customer requirements, ensuring that solutions meet specific operational and data processing needs.
Innovate: Leverage knowledge and experience to drive innovation within existing products, continuously exploring ways to improve functionality, efficiency, and scalability. Suggest new or enhanced methods, processes, automations or designs that streamline operations and improve overall product effectiveness, actively contributing to the evolution of Shift5’s technology.
Qualifications:
Foundational Understanding of Systems: This role demands a deep-rooted curiosity and a fundamental knowledge of how systems and technologies operate. An intuitive grasp of core principles is essential, enabling the ability to dissect and understand how various components interact and function within complex architectures that reside on the edge or in the cloud.
Core Expertise: Strong demonstrable expertise in Linux, networking, and cloud-native technologies, including Kubernetes, Containers, OCI image creation, Helm, Terraform and ArgoCD. Excellent capability in shell scripting, git and data serialization formats are also essential.
Proficient Expertise: Ability to understand programming languages like Go, Python, C++ and C to effectively troubleshoot and debug existing deployments.
Experience: Strong track record of platform engineering or similar roles in high growth environments, with hands-on and proven experience in cloud and edge computing environments. BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
