The Role

We are currently seeking a Portfolio Data Engineering Intern.

A core part of Addepar’s business relies on us being able to quickly and correctly ingest data from a variety of sources, including 3rd party data providers, custodial banks, data APIs, and even direct user input. The data engineers on the Portfolio Data Engineering team help build and maintain the transformation and cleaning steps of our ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipeline before it can be stored and accessed by our customers in a standardised fashion. As a data engineering intern on this team, you’ll be building components within the ETL pipeline that automate these cleaning and transformation steps. Your team is a big component of growing and serving Addepar’s client base with minimal manual data cleaning effort required from our clients or from our internal data operations team.

What You’ll Do

  • Write code and contribute to our data pipelines, supporting the ingestion, analysis and enrichment of financial data.
  • Learn and demonstrate engineering best practices and principles.
  • Collaborate effectively with product managers, engineers and stakeholders on your project.
  • Manage individual project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
  • Produce a retrospective and demonstrate your summer project to an internal audience.

Who You Are

  • Must be currently enrolled in a post-secondary educational institution ( university must be located in Scotland or the UK) & must be returning to school after internship.
  • Pursuing a degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or a related technical field.
  • Available to intern for the full 12 weeks.
  • Experience with object-oriented programming.
  • Understanding of data structures and algorithms.
  • Interest in data modeling, visualization, and ETL pipelines.
  • General familiarity with some of the technologies we use:
    • Python, Apache Spark / PySpark, Java/Spring
    • Amazon Web Services
    • SQL, relational databases
  • Knowledge of financial concepts or data systems is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Our Values

  • Act Like an Owner - Think and operate with intention, purpose and care. Own outcomes.
  • Build Together - Collaborate to unlock the best solutions. Deliver lasting value.
  • Champion Our Clients - Exceed client expectations. Our clients’ success is our success.
  • Drive Innovation - Be bold and unconstrained in problem solving. Transform the industry.
  • Embrace Learning - Engage our community to broaden our perspective. Bring a growth mindset.

In addition to our core values, Addepar is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We seek to bring together diverse ideas, experiences, skill sets, perspectives, backgrounds and identities to drive innovative solutions. We commit to promoting a welcoming environment where inclusion and belonging are held as a shared responsibility.

We will ensure that individuals with disabilities are provided reasonable accommodation to participate in the job application or interview process, to perform essential job functions, and to receive other benefits and privileges of employment. Please contact us to request accommodation.

PHISHING SCAM WARNING: Addepar is among several companies recently made aware of a phishing scam involving con artists posing as hiring managers recruiting via email, text and social media. The imposters are creating misleading email accounts, conducting remote “interviews,” and making fake job offers in order to collect personal and financial information from unsuspecting individuals. Please be aware that no job offers will be made from Addepar without a formal interview process. Additionally, Addepar will not ask you to purchase equipment or supplies as part of your onboarding process. If you have any questions, please reach out to [email protected].

Safe Remote Job Search Tips

Verify Employer Thoroughly

Research the company's identity thoroughly before applying. Check for a professional website with contacts, active social media, and LinkedIn profiles. Verify details across platforms and look for reviews on Glassdoor or Trustpilot to confirm legitimacy.

Never Pay to Get a Job

Legitimate employers never require payment for applications, training, background checks, or equipment. Always reject upfront payment requests or demands for bank details, even if they claim it's for purchasing necessary work gear on your behalf.

Safeguard Your Personal Information

Protect sensitive data like SSN, bank details, or ID copies. Share this only after accepting a formal, written job offer. Ensure it's submitted via a secure company system or portal, never through insecure channels like standard email attachments.

Scrutinize Communication & Interviews

Watch for communication red flags: poor grammar, generic emails (@gmail), vague details, or undue pressure. Be highly suspicious of interviews held only via text or chat apps; legitimate companies typically use video or phone calls.

Beware of Unrealistic Offers

If an offer's salary or benefits seem unrealistically high for the work involved, be cautious. Research standard pay for similar roles. Offers that appear 'too good to be true' are often scams designed to lure you into providing information or payment.

Insist on a Formal Contract

Always secure and review a formal, written job offer or employment contract before starting work or sharing final personal details. Ensure it clearly defines your role, compensation, key terms, and conditions to avoid misunderstandings or scams.
