Job Description

Join Our Journey at Engine

At Engine, we’re revolutionizing work travel. Our modern travel platform isn’t just about booking trips; it’s about transforming how businesses and their teams experience travel. From seamless booking options with top airlines, hotels, and car rental providers to single-invoice billing and flexible trip modifications, we make travel not only easier to manage but also enjoyable. Backed by powerhouse investors like Telescope Partners, Blackstone, Elefund, and Permira, we’re growing fast—and we want you to be part of it.

Your Mission:
The Engine Infrastructure and Security (InfraSec) group is working to provide a cloud ecosystem where building new services and environments is automatic and economical for the business, and creates leverage, velocity, and quality for our engineers. As a Principal Infrastructure Engineer, you will be the force multiplier that helps build the technical roadmap, sets the overall architectural direction, solves the most difficult problems, and provides technical guidance to the InfraSec engineering team. You will be responsible for defining how we standardize, automate, and deliver the next generation of cloud environments, infrastructure, build/deploy, and ecosystem services.

What You’ll Bring to Engine:
We’re looking for someone who’s ready to make an impact and grow alongside us:

  • Experience: 12+ years of hands-on experience in designing and building scalable, reliable cloud infrastructure and systems. Deep expertise in cloud environments and services, particularly AWS. Proven ability to define and drive technical direction across teams, navigate technical and business ambiguity, and develop a compelling roadmap. Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts, align stakeholders, and secure buy-in from leadership and partners. Experience leading and executing large-scale infrasec initiatives in complex technical ecosystems, ensuring long-term scalability, resilience, and efficiency.

  • Technical Skillset:
    • Infrastructure as Code: Mastery of Terraform, as well as multiple declarative and imperative frameworks (ex: Cloudformation, Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Pulumi)
    • Containerization: Strong experience with Docker and Kubernetes
    • Observability: Expertise in logging, monitoring, metrics, and alerting systems
    • Configuration Management & Service Discovery: Deep understanding of data organization, partitioning, storage and retrieval, fault tolerance, and leveraging effective libraries for automation and orchestration
    • CI/CD: Proficiency in tools and architectures for build, deploy, and artifact management
    • Security & Compliance: Experience with security systems, data governance, and compliance frameworks.

Mindset: Strategic thinker who thrives in ambiguous environments and can define a clear technical vision. Collaborative leader who can communicate technical concepts effectively to stakeholders. Passion for building scalable, reliable, and secure infrastructure with a continuous improvement mindset. A hands-on technical leader who thrives on driving teams through complex challenges and delivering impactful results.

Cash compensation: The base salary range for this role is $220,000 to $250,000. Final compensation packages are determined by various factors, including prior experience and expertise. This role is also eligible to receive equity compensation.

Safe Remote Job Search Tips

Verify Employer Thoroughly

Research the company's identity thoroughly before applying. Check for a professional website with contacts, active social media, and LinkedIn profiles. Verify details across platforms and look for reviews on Glassdoor or Trustpilot to confirm legitimacy.

Never Pay to Get a Job

Legitimate employers never require payment for applications, training, background checks, or equipment. Always reject upfront payment requests or demands for bank details, even if they claim it's for purchasing necessary work gear on your behalf.

Safeguard Your Personal Information

Protect sensitive data like SSN, bank details, or ID copies. Share this only after accepting a formal, written job offer. Ensure it's submitted via a secure company system or portal, never through insecure channels like standard email attachments.

Scrutinize Communication & Interviews

Watch for communication red flags: poor grammar, generic emails (@gmail), vague details, or undue pressure. Be highly suspicious of interviews held only via text or chat apps; legitimate companies typically use video or phone calls.

Beware of Unrealistic Offers

If an offer's salary or benefits seem unrealistically high for the work involved, be cautious. Research standard pay for similar roles. Offers that appear 'too good to be true' are often scams designed to lure you into providing information or payment.

Insist on a Formal Contract

Always secure and review a formal, written job offer or employment contract before starting work or sharing final personal details. Ensure it clearly defines your role, compensation, key terms, and conditions to avoid misunderstandings or scams.
