Join us! We are looking for a talented attorney to join our legal team. This is a unique opportunity to work cross-functionally with high-impact teams, advising on a wide array of legal and business issues in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. As Product and Marketing Counsel, you will be responsible for handling a wide range of legal issues including but not limited to advising on legal compliance for product launches or legal issues related to user research, copyright and other IP matters, and review of marketing and promotional campaigns and press releases. We are looking for someone who is motivated by our purpose and is a creative, flexible, business-minded problem-solver who is able to juggle multiple priorities.

The Job...

  • Review and advise on marketing content, including digital campaigns, social media, email communications, influencer partnerships, and promotional materials.
  • Ensure compliance with consumer protection regulations, advertising law, substantiation, disclosures, endorsements, user-generated content, and industry best practices.
  • Partner with marketing, brand, and communications teams to provide practical legal risk mitigation strategies.
  • Provide legal guidance on new product features and updates, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including privacy, consumer protection, and IP concerns.
  • Partner with Product, Compliance, Data Privacy, Brand, and Engineering to ensure legal considerations are embedded in the planning stages and mitigate risks throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Work with outside counsel to manage the company’s intellectual property portfolio and assist in filing new applications.
  • Advise on projects as needed, including regulatory, IP, and risk management issues

You...

  • A JD from a top law school and membership in the California Bar
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience (in-house and/or law firm), ideally with exposure to marketing review, advertising law, or product counseling experience.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. advertising and consumer protection laws, privacy principles, and emerging technology issues.
  • International experience and experience in intellectual property and/or privacy are a plus.
  • Ability to provide quick, concise and practical legal advice consistent with the organization’s business objectives.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, act decisively and run projects autonomously.
  • Good judgment, strong ethics, kind heart.
  • Confident self-starter and proven ability to work cross-functionally with business partners.
  • Creative thinker with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to stay calm under challenging circumstances.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously, with effective resolution of conflicting priorities.
  • A passion for GoFundMe’s mission while being a genuine GoFundMe ambassador who amplifies GoFundMe’s culture in all communications and interactions.

Safe Remote Job Search Tips

Verify Employer Thoroughly

Research the company's identity thoroughly before applying. Check for a professional website with contacts, active social media, and LinkedIn profiles. Verify details across platforms and look for reviews on Glassdoor or Trustpilot to confirm legitimacy.

Never Pay to Get a Job

Legitimate employers never require payment for applications, training, background checks, or equipment. Always reject upfront payment requests or demands for bank details, even if they claim it's for purchasing necessary work gear on your behalf.

Safeguard Your Personal Information

Protect sensitive data like SSN, bank details, or ID copies. Share this only after accepting a formal, written job offer. Ensure it's submitted via a secure company system or portal, never through insecure channels like standard email attachments.

Scrutinize Communication & Interviews

Watch for communication red flags: poor grammar, generic emails (@gmail), vague details, or undue pressure. Be highly suspicious of interviews held only via text or chat apps; legitimate companies typically use video or phone calls.

Beware of Unrealistic Offers

If an offer's salary or benefits seem unrealistically high for the work involved, be cautious. Research standard pay for similar roles. Offers that appear 'too good to be true' are often scams designed to lure you into providing information or payment.

Insist on a Formal Contract

Always secure and review a formal, written job offer or employment contract before starting work or sharing final personal details. Ensure it clearly defines your role, compensation, key terms, and conditions to avoid misunderstandings or scams.
