Job Description
At HackerRank, we are on a mission to change the world to value skills over pedigree. We are a high-performing, mission-driven team that truly, madly, deeply cares about what we do. We don’t see velocity and quality as tradeoffs; both matter. If you take pride in high-impact work and thrive in a driven team, HackerRank is where you belong.
About the role
As an Outbound SDR, you will be at the forefront of our sales efforts, responsible for identifying and proactively engaging potential clients. You'll be a hunter, seeking out new business opportunities and playing a critical role in expanding our customer base. This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to launch or accelerate their sales career in a supportive and growth-oriented environment.
What you’ll do
- Prospect Like a Pro: Strategically identify and research potential customers (Ideal Customer Profiles - ICPs) who would benefit from our products. Utilize various tools and platforms (e.g., LinkedIn Sales Navigator, Apollo) to build targeted prospect lists.
- Outreach Expert: Craft and execute personalized, multi-channel outreach campaigns (cold calling, email, social media) to initiate contact and generate interest with key decision-makers.
- Qualify & Nurture: Engage prospects in meaningful conversations to understand their needs, challenges, and decision-making processes. Effectively qualify leads based on established criteria to ensure they are a good fit for our solutions. Nurture early-stage leads to build rapport and maintain engagement.
- Book Meetings & Drive Pipeline: Secure qualified meetings (demos, discovery calls) for our Account Executives, clearly articulating our value proposition and arousing prospect curiosity.
- Data-Driven & Organized: Meticulously track all activities, communications, and lead information in our CRM system (Salesforce). Provide regular reports on key metrics and performance.
- Collaborate for Success: Work closely with the sales and marketing teams to refine targeting strategies, messaging, and overall outbound processes. Share market feedback to contribute to our continuous improvement.
- Stay Curious & Learn: Continuously develop your knowledge of our industry, products/services, and effective sales techniques.
You will thrive in this role if
- You love the early stages of the sales process - prospecting, building connections, and testing new and innovative outreach
- You’re coachable and willing to always stay at the cutting edge
- You can build relationships fast and confidently - and get to the root of someone’s problems in two minutes or less.
What you bring
- Hunter Mentality: A proactive, self-starting attitude with a strong desire to achieve and exceed targets.
- Excellent Communicator: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messages and engage prospects effectively.
- Resilience & Persistence: Ability to handle rejection gracefully and maintain a positive, persistent approach. You see "no" as a "not yet."
- Highly Organized: Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and a high volume of outreach.
- Tech-Savvy: Proficient in using CRM software and other sales productivity tools. Familiarity with prospecting tools such as Apollo is a plus.
- Coachability & Eagerness to Learn: A genuine desire to learn, receive feedback, and continuously improve your skills.
- Team Player: Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
- (Optional) Experience: Previous experience in an SDR, BDR, or outbound sales role is a plus, but not always required for candidates with the right attitude and aptitude.
- (Optional) Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field is preferred.
Current base salary range: $60,000 - $85,000. The exact salary may vary based on skills, experience, location, market ranges, and other compensation offered. The salary range does not include other compensation components, commissions (for sales-related roles), bonuses, or benefits for which you may be eligible. Salary may be adjusted based on business needs.

Verify Employer Thoroughly
Research the company's identity thoroughly before applying. Check for a professional website with contacts, active social media, and LinkedIn profiles. Verify details across platforms and look for reviews on Glassdoor or Trustpilot to confirm legitimacy.
Never Pay to Get a Job
Legitimate employers never require payment for applications, training, background checks, or equipment. Always reject upfront payment requests or demands for bank details, even if they claim it's for purchasing necessary work gear on your behalf.
Safeguard Your Personal Information
Protect sensitive data like SSN, bank details, or ID copies. Share this only after accepting a formal, written job offer. Ensure it's submitted via a secure company system or portal, never through insecure channels like standard email attachments.
Scrutinize Communication & Interviews
Watch for communication red flags: poor grammar, generic emails (@gmail), vague details, or undue pressure. Be highly suspicious of interviews held only via text or chat apps; legitimate companies typically use video or phone calls.
Beware of Unrealistic Offers
If an offer's salary or benefits seem unrealistically high for the work involved, be cautious. Research standard pay for similar roles. Offers that appear 'too good to be true' are often scams designed to lure you into providing information or payment.
Insist on a Formal Contract
Always secure and review a formal, written job offer or employment contract before starting work or sharing final personal details. Ensure it clearly defines your role, compensation, key terms, and conditions to avoid misunderstandings or scams.
