Job Description

We’re Underdog.

The fastest-growing sports gaming company – ever.

We build innovative games, products, and experiences for American sports fans.

We’re here to shake up the fastest growing industry with bold ideas, custom-built tech, and the drive to win.

Founded in 2020, our team has built four of today’s most widely played fantasy games and launched the Underdog Sportsbook – built entirely in-house with our own technology. That means we control our product, move fast, and create experiences you won’t find anywhere else.

In just over two years, we’ve reached over a $1.2 billion valuation, with investors like BlackRock, Spark Capital, SV Angel, Mark Cuban, Kevin Durant, and Adam Schefter. And we’re just getting started.

At Underdog, we believe that sports are for everyone. Join us.

The Senior Accounting Associate will primarily focus on expense-related accounting functions and own critical workflows including vendor payments, procurement review, contract validation, and month-end close responsibilities. This role works closely with teams across Marketing, Legal, and Compliance, so strong collaboration and communication skills are essential.

You’ll be instrumental in scaling our accounting operations to meet the demands of a growing, dynamic business.

About the role and why it’s unique:

  • Manage day-to-day accounting for expense-related accounts, including platforms such as Ramp and Zip
  • Review and validate vendor invoices, route them for proper approval, and ensure timely and accurate payment
  • Configure and optimize system approval workflows and reporting tools to improve efficiency
  • Partner closely with the Marketing team to review and interpret complex affiliate contracts
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for vendors regarding payments and issue resolution
  • Lead core areas of the monthly close process, including accrued expenses, partner payments, credit and bank reconciliations, prepaid expenses, and accounts receivable
  • Prepare journal entries and ensure accurate departmental coding across Sage, Ramp, and Zip systems
  • Support broader finance initiatives, including budgeting, forecasting, and departmental reporting
  • Contribute to system and process enhancements related to multi-entity accounting and consolidations
  • Develop a working knowledge of tax reporting obligations such as 1099 filings, tax provisions, and income taxes
  • Collaborate with Legal and Compliance to identify and address any accounting-owned registration or filing requirements

Who you are:

  • CPA certification required
  • 4+ years of accounting experience, preferably with a big 4 background
  • Strong audit/assurance foundation
  • Experience in a technology or high-growth environment is a plus
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and thrive in a fast-moving, evolving company
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset

Even better if you have:

  • Experience using expense systems such as Zip or Ramp
  • Prior experience working with marketing partnership teams on affiliate spend
  • Familiarity with contract term analysis

Our target starting base salary range for this position is between $95,000 and $115,000, plus target equity. The starting base salary will depend on a number of factors including the candidate’s skills and experience, among other things.

What we can offer you:

  • Unlimited PTO (we're extremely flexible with the exception of the first few weeks before & into the NFL season)
  • 16 weeks of fully paid parental leave
  • A $500 home office allowance
  • A connected virtual first culture with a highly engaged distributed workforce
  • 5% 401k match, FSA, company paid health, dental, vision plan options for employees and dependents

Safe Remote Job Search Tips

Verify Employer Thoroughly

Research the company's identity thoroughly before applying. Check for a professional website with contacts, active social media, and LinkedIn profiles. Verify details across platforms and look for reviews on Glassdoor or Trustpilot to confirm legitimacy.

Never Pay to Get a Job

Legitimate employers never require payment for applications, training, background checks, or equipment. Always reject upfront payment requests or demands for bank details, even if they claim it's for purchasing necessary work gear on your behalf.

Safeguard Your Personal Information

Protect sensitive data like SSN, bank details, or ID copies. Share this only after accepting a formal, written job offer. Ensure it's submitted via a secure company system or portal, never through insecure channels like standard email attachments.

Scrutinize Communication & Interviews

Watch for communication red flags: poor grammar, generic emails (@gmail), vague details, or undue pressure. Be highly suspicious of interviews held only via text or chat apps; legitimate companies typically use video or phone calls.

Beware of Unrealistic Offers

If an offer's salary or benefits seem unrealistically high for the work involved, be cautious. Research standard pay for similar roles. Offers that appear 'too good to be true' are often scams designed to lure you into providing information or payment.

Insist on a Formal Contract

Always secure and review a formal, written job offer or employment contract before starting work or sharing final personal details. Ensure it clearly defines your role, compensation, key terms, and conditions to avoid misunderstandings or scams.
