Senior Authentication Engineer

Overview

Join BitMEX's core Engineering team, within our critical Security and Infrastructure group, as a Senior Authentication Engineer. You will play a pivotal role in enhancing the security posture of our high-performance trading platform and user ecosystem. This is a unique opportunity to work on innovative frameworks and applications central to platform security and user authentication in the dynamic world of crypto. As a key team member, you'll collaborate with cross-functional teams across BitMEX to design, develop, and maintain critical security features. You will dive into complex distributed systems, contribute innovative authentication and identity management solutions, and ensure the unwavering reliability and integrity of our trading platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and execute high-impact security projects focused on BitMEX's trading platform and its surrounding user ecosystem.
• Design and implement advanced authentication and identity management technologies, including frameworks and applications, in collaboration with a dedicated team.
• Proactively troubleshoot and resolve security vulnerabilities and issues to maintain the highest levels of platform reliability and integrity.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams (e.g., Product, Trading, Compliance, Infrastructure) to design, develop, and maintain critical security features used by our global user base.
• Safeguard user assets and privacy by ensuring BitMEX's authentication and security processes meet the highest industry standards for financial services and crypto exchanges.
• Lead the design, development, and integration of cutting-edge authentication methods, including OAuth 2.0 flows, social login providers (e.g., Google, Apple ID), and Passkey technology, ensuring seamless and secure user experiences.
• Evaluate and implement third-party identity providers and authentication services, ensuring robust security, scalability, and adherence to industry standards for OAuth, social login, and FIDO specifications.
• Develop and maintain APIs to support the integration of advanced authentication solutions across various client applications (web, mobile, desktop).
• Stay current with emerging authentication standards and technologies (e.g., OpenID Connect, WebAuthn, FIDO Alliance specifications) and proactively propose their adoption to enhance platform security and user convenience.
• Collaborate with UI/UX teams to design intuitive and secure user flows for registration, login, and account recovery utilizing new authentication methods.

Qualifications:

• Expertise in writing and debugging complex, secure code. (Familiarity with languages like Python and Java)
• Experience with identity and access management (IAM) systems and concepts.
• Knowledge of cryptographic principles applied in modern authentication protocols.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, network security, and secure software development principles. Experience developing in object-oriented languages.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with cross-functional teams and diverse stakeholders.
• Proven ability to quickly learn and adapt to new security technologies and effectively leverage existing ones in a rapidly evolving crypto landscape.
• An innovative thinker passionate about engineering excellence and eager to contribute to cutting-edge security projects within the high-stakes crypto and financial services domain.
• Experience within the financial services or cryptocurrency industry, particularly with high-performance trading systems is highly preferred.
