The Role
We're seeking a Senior Backend Engineer who thrives in fast-paced, early-stage environments. You’ll work directly with the company’s founders and help shape both the product and technical direction. This is a high-impact, high-ownership role ideal for someone who enjoys building across the stack and shipping features quickly.

The ideal person will be passionate about building consumer data privacy software, and will have experience across most of these areas:
Python / Django
Working in Django at Scale
Django-rest-framework and/or django-ninja
Utilizing various testing strategies to deliver high quality, robust code
Asynchronous jobs execution / event brokers (Celery / RabbitMQ / Redis)
Databases - Postgres and NoSQL (ElasticSearch, MongoDB, Cassandra)
User data security best practices
Designing maintainable, scalable backend software components
Implementing integrations with third-party APIs
Diagnosing and addressing performance issues
Kubernetes, microservices, and resource management
AWS (Preferred), GCP, Azure
HTML and Javascript experience
Bonus if you have experience working in the consumer privacy or consumer data industries, React, HTMX and automation tools
Qualifications
6+ years experience as a backend or full-stack engineer building web applications
3+ years experience with Python and Django
Demonstrated knowledge of Computer Science fundamentals
Maturity, self-awareness, empathy, a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a positive attitude
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering, or equivalent work experience
Location
This is aremote-first position, based in the United States. Optery is headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area, but operates as a fully-remote global team.
