About the job
This position will provide legal support to Twilio’s R&D Organization.
This position is a key component of our legal team and a trusted member of the business. As a Senior Counsel you are responsible for partnering with our global Product and Engineering teams to provide legal guidance throughout the product life cycle. You will help ensure that the development of our products and services meet our strategic objectives while complying with applicable laws and regulations in a business centric way. You will collaborate with multiple stakeholders across the business as well as legal colleagues to help Twilio accomplish its strategic objectives in a fast paced environment.
Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll:
- Advise Product and Engineering during all stages of product development on how to navigate potential legal risks.
- Work with Product and Engineering teams to ensure our products and services comply with existing applicable regulations.
- Advise Product and Engineering teams on the go-to-market strategy for new products including structuring and drafting legal terms as required.
- Support the commercial transactions legal team in reviewing, and negotiating legal agreements with customers, vendors, and business partners.
- Support the Privacy team in identifying privacy risks and in conducting data protection and/or Privacy Impact Assessments.
- Review marketing materials in relation to our product and service offerings.
- Collaborate with legal colleagues to monitor and analyze developments in regulations applicable to our product and service offerings and advise internal teams as necessary.
- Assist with governance as it relates to the development and deployment of Artificial Intelligence (AI) features in products and AI model development to ensure responsible use, compliance with AI regulations, and alignment with industry best practices.
- Help develop and maintain legal processes and documentation to support the product legal team function.

Required:
- Strong academic credentials and demonstrated record of success as a lawyer and Member of local State Bar or eligible to register as Registered In-House Counsel.
- 8+ years of legal experience, at least three of which should be in an in-house environment at a technology company.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a cross functional team.
- Proven experience counseling product and/or engineering teams on issues that may include compliance with regulatory frameworks.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills, effective communication skills, quick learner, and a strong sense of initiative.
- Experience negotiating contracts with customers in a technology company.
- Familiarity with global privacy frameworks.
Desired:
- Experience counseling product and/or engineering teams on compliance with regulatory frameworks applicable to U.S. and global electronic communications platforms.
- Experience counseling product and/or engineering teams on emerging Artificial Intelligence regulations and assisting with AI governance policies and processes.
Location
This role will be remote and based in Canada.
Travel

The estimated pay ranges for this role are as follows:
- Based in British Columbia. : $142,800 - $178,500
The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location.
