About This Role
The Athletic is looking for a Senior Executive Producer to spearhead the creative vision and production of video content led by our journalists. The successful applicant will be an experienced and collaborative video journalist who will work closely with our newsroom to create compelling video that will make our daily storytelling more visual and connect fans with our reporters on and off platform.
To thrive in our fast-paced, complex environment, the Senior Executive Producer will require rock solid news judgment and organizational skills along with creativity and production expertise.
This is a 100% remote opportunity for candidates currently residing in the United States or Canada.
- Establish a creative vision for reporter-led video formats that will enhance the on-platform user experience.
- Work with editors across multiple sports and coverage areas to identify stories that will both amplify our reporting and lend themselves well to visual storytelling.
- Collaborate with our newsroom to identify talent and create an efficient production process.
- Produce and edit reporter-led videos in collaboration with video team members.
- Establish best practices and training materials for newsroom talent.
- Provide constructive feedback to all stakeholders in a timely manner.
- Ensure that all content is released on time and to the required design and editorial standards.
- Be the go-to video expert for reporters and editors to encourage and support telling stories in a different way.
- 8+ years experience in broadcast journalism (will consider relevant, equivalent professional experience).
- Excellent line management and leadership capabilities.
- Understanding of what is newsworthy.
- Understanding of how news processes work (rights of reply, what needs legal vetting, balance of information, sourcing).
- Ability to ingest, consolidate, contextualize and communicate complicated information.
- Excellent management and presentation skills.
- Excellent knowledge of sports and news.
- Ability to manage high profile journalists under extreme time pressure.
- Strong video editing skills highly desirable.
- High level of professionalism; driven and motivated with excellent follow-up.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
- Creative and strategic thinking skills.
- Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends if needed.
The annual base salary range for this role is $110,000.00 - $120,000.00 USD. The total compensation offered for this position may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skills, and location. It may also include non-cash rewards and benefits. The base salary range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
