Upstart is a digital-first company, which means that most Upstarters live and work anywhere in the United States. However, we also have offices in San Mateo, California; Columbus, Ohio; and Austin, Texas.

Most Upstarters join us because they connect with our mission of enabling access to effortless credit based on true risk. If you are energized by the impact you can make at Upstart, we’d love to hear from you!

The Team:

Upstart’s Growth team is in charge of expanding Upstart’s reach to the millions of Americans without access to affordable credit. We are energized by the prospect of breaking ground in our field and making a positive impact on people’s financial lives.

As the Lifecycle Senior Manager of Emerging Products at Upstart, you will use owned channels like Email, SMS, Push, and Web to guide customers through the stages of discovery, activation, and ultimately borrowing for our newest loan products. This role presents the exciting opportunity to have end-to-end channel ownership– including setting and meeting revenue targets, determining strategy, building Lifecycle journeys in our marketing automation platform, and analyzing the impact of your owned channels.

Position location This role is available in the following locations: Remote

Time zone requirements The team operates on the East/West coast time zones.

Travel requirements As a digital first company, the majority of your work can be accomplished remotely. The majority of our employees can live and work anywhere in the U.S but are encouraged to to still spend high quality time in-person collaborating via regular onsites. The in-person sessions’ cadence varies depending on the team and role; this role is estimated to meet in-person once or twice per quarter for 2-4 consecutive days at a time.

How you’ll make an impact:

  • End-to-end ownership of Lifecycle strategy and execution for Upstart’s emerging products
  • Set revenue and performance targets, track pacing against them, and make adjustments to channel plans accordingly
  • Create annual, quarterly, and journey-level strategy that includes audience criteria, messaging, success metrics, and experimentation
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Growth, Creative, and Analytics teams to enhance Lifecycle journey effectiveness
  • Present your channel’s performance and plan to senior stakeholders in Growth, Product, and Engineering
  • Build, QA, and launch Lifecycle journeys in a marketing automation tool independently
  • Determine relevant audience size and criteria using our in-house Customer Data Platform

What we’re looking for:

  • Over 7 years of marketing experience, with more than 5 years focused on B2C lifecycle marketing. Expertise includes building emails and designing customer journeys within an enterprise marketing automation platform
  • Proven track record of creating GTM strategies and plans that meet ambitious financial targets
  • Proven track record in leveraging a CDP, or customer data attributes and events, to build complex Lifecycle marketing segments
  • History of creating, adjusting, and being responsible for delivering against forecasts
  • Strong analytical ability– this role is data-driven without dedicated Analytics support. You must be able to pull data using a Business Intelligence Tool (we use Looker and Mode) and draw insights from data sets independently

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ownership mentality. At Upstart, Emerging Products are like internal start-ups! You have experience in building strategy, getting buy-in, and executing.
  • A user-focused approach to solving business problems. Journey mapping experience is a big plus!
  • Experience in managing P&L for a channel, product, or business
  • A power user of both Business Intelligence tools (Looker, Mode, Tableau, etc) and Marketing Automation Platforms (Braze, Iterable preferred)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both senior leadership and technical partners
  • Past experience or a personal interest in financial lending is nice to have, but not required

What you'll love:

  • Competitive Compensation (base + bonus & equity)
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage with Health Savings Account contributions from Upstart
  • 401(k) with 100% company match up to $4,500 and immediate vesting and after-tax savings

  • Supportive parental, family care, and military leave programs
  • Annual wellness, technology & ergonomic reimbursement programs
  • Social activities including team events and onsites, all-company updates, employee resource groups (ERGs), and other interest groups such as book clubs, fitness, investing, and volunteering

Safe Remote Job Search Tips

Verify Employer Thoroughly

Research the company's identity thoroughly before applying. Check for a professional website with contacts, active social media, and LinkedIn profiles. Verify details across platforms and look for reviews on Glassdoor or Trustpilot to confirm legitimacy.

Never Pay to Get a Job

Legitimate employers never require payment for applications, training, background checks, or equipment. Always reject upfront payment requests or demands for bank details, even if they claim it's for purchasing necessary work gear on your behalf.

Safeguard Your Personal Information

Protect sensitive data like SSN, bank details, or ID copies. Share this only after accepting a formal, written job offer. Ensure it's submitted via a secure company system or portal, never through insecure channels like standard email attachments.

Scrutinize Communication & Interviews

Watch for communication red flags: poor grammar, generic emails (@gmail), vague details, or undue pressure. Be highly suspicious of interviews held only via text or chat apps; legitimate companies typically use video or phone calls.

Beware of Unrealistic Offers

If an offer's salary or benefits seem unrealistically high for the work involved, be cautious. Research standard pay for similar roles. Offers that appear 'too good to be true' are often scams designed to lure you into providing information or payment.

Insist on a Formal Contract

Always secure and review a formal, written job offer or employment contract before starting work or sharing final personal details. Ensure it clearly defines your role, compensation, key terms, and conditions to avoid misunderstandings or scams.
