CookUnity

Senior QA Engineer, Horizons

Job Description

About CookUnity

Food has lost its soul to modern convenience. And with it, has lost the power to nourish, inspire, and connect us. So in 2018, CookUnity was founded as the first-of-its-kind platform that connects the world with the source of truly great food: chefs. Today, CookUnity delivers 35 million meals a year from the industry’s best chefs to homes all over the country. Fresh. Ready-to-eat. And crafted with the passion that nourishes body and soul.

Unwilling to stop there, CookUnity is expanding beyond delivery to become an ever-innovating marketplace focused on our singular mission: empower Chefs to nourish the world.

If that mission has you hungry in more ways than one, you’ve found the right job posting.

About The Team:

As a fundamental part of CookUnity’s platform, Horizon enables different business models, subscription plans, and order management, ensuring a seamless experience for all users. The Full Stack team is responsible for building and maintaining end-to-end solutions that bridge the gap between an intuitive frontend experience and a robust, scalable backend.

The team is responsible for two key areas:

  1. Developing and Optimizing Subscription and Order Experiences: Full Stack engineers ensure that users can explore, manage, and subscribe to different plans effortlessly while maintaining a seamless order creation and management experience. This involves working on frontend interfaces, enhancing UI/UX, and optimizing interactions with backend services to improve engagement and performance.
  2. Ensuring Scalable and Reliable Order Processing: As the source of truth for user orders, Horizon’s Full Stack engineers are responsible for integrating frontend and backend systems to guarantee order integrity, execute autopilot processes, manage skips, and validate delivery eligibility. They work on critical functionalities that ensure stability and accuracy across the platform.

By combining expertise in frontend development, backend infrastructure, and system integrations, the Horizon Full Stack Team plays a crucial role in delivering a seamless and reliable experience for users while ensuring operational excellence across CookUnity.

The Role:

As a Senior QA Engineer, you will play a key role in shaping the quality of our user experience by combining manual and automated testing strategies. You will be actively involved from the early stages of our most important initiatives, working closely with both Product and Engineering teams to gain context, define testing strategies, and ensure quality is built into every step of the process.

Your contributions will go beyond bug detection—you'll help clarify the scope of changes, determine what needs to be tested, and support developers and product managers in building reliable and delightful user experiences. By participating early in the definition phase, you’ll help prevent issues before they happen and promote a quality-first mindset across the team.

This role is a great opportunity to have a meaningful impact on how we build and deliver value to our users while ensuring we consistently deliver high-quality products.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and improve test automation frameworks for web and mobile platforms.
  • Leverage AI-driven automation tools to increase test coverage and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, DevOps, and Product teams to identify gaps in test coverage and define clear quality metrics.
  • Collaborate closely with the Product team to gain early visibility into the most critical initiatives, contributing proactively to the definition and refinement of user stories.
  • Design, maintain, and execute manual test cases for both regression and exploratory testing scenarios.
  • Create and update comprehensive test plans and test documentation, ensuring alignment with functional requirements.
  • Identify, document, and report defects and issues clearly and accurately using Jira, following up on their resolution.
  • Perform root cause analysis on production issues and collaborate with Engineering to implement preventive solutions.
  • Define and monitor key quality indicators (e.g., test coverage, flakiness rate, defect leakage) to drive continuous, data-informed improvements.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Strong technical foundation in software testing and quality assurance, with a proven track record of ensuring high product standards through both manual and automated testing.
  • Hands-on experience designing, executing, and maintaining manual test plans and test cases, including exploratory and regression testing.
  • Proficiency in test automation tools for web and mobile, such as Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, and Appium (or similar).
  • Proficiency in contract testing and API testing frameworks, such as Postman, RestAssured (or similar).
  • Ability to write and debug automated tests in JavaScript, TypeScript, Kotlin, or similar languages.
  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC), agile methodologies, and QA processes.
  • Experience in setting up observability and reporting mechanisms for test execution and coverage.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain and summarize complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment, adapting to changing priorities and driving impact.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience leveraging AI-driven testing tools for test case generation, automated debugging, and root cause analysis.
  • Experience in B2C, e-commerce, or marketplace platforms.

Safe Remote Job Search Tips

Verify Employer Thoroughly

Research the company's identity thoroughly before applying. Check for a professional website with contacts, active social media, and LinkedIn profiles. Verify details across platforms and look for reviews on Glassdoor or Trustpilot to confirm legitimacy.

Never Pay to Get a Job

Legitimate employers never require payment for applications, training, background checks, or equipment. Always reject upfront payment requests or demands for bank details, even if they claim it's for purchasing necessary work gear on your behalf.

Safeguard Your Personal Information

Protect sensitive data like SSN, bank details, or ID copies. Share this only after accepting a formal, written job offer. Ensure it's submitted via a secure company system or portal, never through insecure channels like standard email attachments.

Scrutinize Communication & Interviews

Watch for communication red flags: poor grammar, generic emails (@gmail), vague details, or undue pressure. Be highly suspicious of interviews held only via text or chat apps; legitimate companies typically use video or phone calls.

Beware of Unrealistic Offers

If an offer's salary or benefits seem unrealistically high for the work involved, be cautious. Research standard pay for similar roles. Offers that appear 'too good to be true' are often scams designed to lure you into providing information or payment.

Insist on a Formal Contract

Always secure and review a formal, written job offer or employment contract before starting work or sharing final personal details. Ensure it clearly defines your role, compensation, key terms, and conditions to avoid misunderstandings or scams.
