About the Role
We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Software Engineer to join our team. You'll be instrumental in building our next generation platforms for understanding, observing, and predicting inventory levels in real time – think: platforms that provide the precision and depth of a warehouse but scaled to every local store. In close collaboration with ML engineers, product teams, and data scientists, you will enable sophisticated models and data collection platforms to scale while driving new product innovation.
About the Team
The inventory intelligence team is responsible for understanding exactly what is on store shelves at all times. Inventory estimates drive some of the most important products at instacart from search to logistics. Our team is responsible for the end-to-end data supply chain including ingestion and integration of data sources from partners to collecting inventory observations to model development, serving, and integrations across our products.

- Design, build, and maintain high-quality backend applications.
- Contribute to the development of our roadmap, prioritizing scalability, reliability, and our customers.
- Own and lead major components of our product, ensuring they meet both internal standards and external expectations.
- Collaborate across teams to foster a unified approach to product development, facilitating consensus and driving effective outcomes.
- Responsible for the strategic planning and execution of projects you oversee, from inception to deployment and maintenance.
About You
Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years of backend development experience, with a strong record of project delivery.
- Proficiency in backend languages, such as Ruby or Go.
- A solid foundation in unit testing, systems observability, and problem-solving.
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to lead and collaborate with a diverse set of functions across teams (MLEs, PMs, Product Engineers, etc.).
- Holds a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrates strong teamwork skills and is capable of clearly communicating ideas and fostering alignment across different departments.
- Experience in building scalable solutions and architecture.
- Familiarity with ML model development and iteration.
- Experience bringing Go best practices to new and redeveloped services.
Instacart provides highly market-competitive compensation and benefits in each location where our employees work. This role is remote and the base pay range for a successful candidate is dependent on their permanent work location. Please review our Flex First remote work policy here.
