Ironclad is accelerating its AI initiatives, starting with the successful launch of Jurist and many AI-powered features. We're looking for a Senior or Staff Software Engineer to help scale our AI capabilities and lead the development of product-facing applications powered by LLMs and ML capabilities. In this role, you’ll play a central part in turning state-of-the-art AI into intuitive, reliable experiences that solve real problems for legal teams.
As a key member of the AI teams, you’ll work across the stack to design and ship user-facing features, build scalable systems that integrate with LLMs, and help shape the technical strategy behind Ironclad’s AI product surface. You’ll collaborate closely with product managers and designers to prototype, test, and iterate quickly, and work directly with customers to gather feedback and validate impact. What you’ll do:
Design and build full-stack applications that integrate AI/LLM capabilities into intuitive, performant user experiences
Own and scale backend systems that support high-throughput, low-latency AI product features
Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and AI/ML engineers to turn ideas into working software
Guide architectural decisions, mentor team members, and promote engineering best practices
Evaluate and integrate emerging LLM technologies and APIs into the product surface where appropriate
Drive data-informed product development by leveraging metrics and instrumentation
Help grow the team through interviewing, mentoring, and knowledge sharing
Contribute to a modern TypeScript-based codebase using agile and iterative development processes
Required skills:
Strong experience with TypeScript, React, Node.js, and backend service development
3–5+ years of experience building and maintaining scalable, production-grade systems
Experience with cloud infrastructure (GCP preferred), Docker, and Kubernetes
Familiarity with integrating AI/ML or LLM APIs into user-facing applications
Proven ability to ship high-quality, user-tested software in a fast-paced environment
Strong backend fundamentals—performance optimization, data modeling, observability
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
A product mindset and passion for crafting thoughtful, high-impact user experiences
Nice to have:
Experience in 0-to-1 product development or AI-driven feature iteration
Experience with infrastructure and application scaling, including performance tuning, caching strategies, and distributed systems
Exposure to prompt engineering or retrieval-augmented generation (RAG)
Comfort working with product analytics and experimentation frameworks
Familiarity with document-centric workflows (e.g., PDF, DOCX parsing)
Familiarity with observability tooling (e.g., Datadog, Prometheus) and debugging in production environments

Base Salary Range:
Senior Software Engineer:$160,000 - $175,000
Staff Software Engineer:$190,000 - $210,000
The base salary range represents the minimum and maximum of the salary range for this position based at our San Francisco headquarters. The actual base salary offered for this position will depend on numerous factors, including individual proficiency, anticipated performance, and the location of the selected candidate. Our base salary is just one component of Ironclad’s competitive total rewards package, which also includes equity awards (a new hire grant, along with opportunities for additional awards throughout your tenure), competitive health and wellness benefits, and a commitment to career growth and development.
