As a Senior/Staff engineer on the Provider engineering team you will solve highly impactful problems that will have direct impact on patients and providers by leveraging your expertise in building large scale distributed systems. Don’t know our tech stack well? We view technology as a means to solving problems and getting things done, we value talent over current tech stack. You will be hands-on and work on the architecture and design of critical systems while helping grow other team members. You will start meaningful work from day one and will be in a stretch role that can propel your career to higher levels.

What You Will Bring to the Table:

  • 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong track record of building and evolving both source code and complex systems — from services and APIs to end-to-end applications and data pipelines.

  • Proven experience owning production systems at scale, including revisiting and refactoring your own architecture as real-world usage exposed edge cases and tradeoffs.

  • Deep expertise in your preferred stack, and the pragmatism to learn new tools, frameworks, or paradigms when the product or customer demands it.

  • A product mindset — you think beyond the code to how the software delivers value, and you prioritize shipping usable, testable, and valuable features over abstract technical perfection.

  • Curiosity and ownership in equal measure — you enjoy untangling ambiguity, tackling unknowns, and getting into the details of legal-tech and health-tech systems that impact millions.

  • Commitment to mission and ethics — you care deeply about building systems that work for patients, healthcare providers, legal requesters, and every stakeholder who depends on timely, accurate access to medical data.

The Impact You Will Make:

  • Lead design and development of mission-critical systems that power SmartRequest — from billing infrastructure and document pipelines to metadata indexing, patient search, and AI-powered summarization.

  • Mentor and collaborate with engineers across the stack, guiding technical decisions while fostering a culture of curiosity, ownership, and velocity.

  • Drive the architecture of a new SaaS product that transforms a $205M services business into a scalable, self-serve platform serving attorneys, insurers, and government entities.

  • Balance pragmatism and ambition, delivering high-impact V1 features while laying a modular foundation for future request types, users, and integrations.

  • Contribute across the stack — from secure backend APIs and health data integrations (FHIR, CCDA, EHRs) to performant frontends and structured record viewers.

  • Explore and deploy new technologies where they unlock product value — including LLMs for summarization, FHIR-based search, automated PDF parsing, or pricing engines with real-time feedback.

The range posted is for a given job title, which can include multiple levels. Individual rates for the same job title may differ based on their level, responsibilities, skills, and experience for a specific job.

The estimated total cash compensation range for this role is:
$140,000$300,000 USD
