Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re looking for a dynamic, platform-savvy Social Media Manager to join our team at The Dodo. This role is primarily focused on executing day-to-day social distribution, ensuring that content from our video team is published seamlessly and strategically across platforms, including but not limited to TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, and Threads. You’ll manage scheduling and publishing, optimize copy for performance, and help maintain The Dodo’s trusted, high-impact presence across social.

In addition to distribution, this role also includes contributing to short-form video creation. Content creation is a regular part of the role, with volume varying based on campaign needs and team coverage. You’ll pitch, film, edit, and repackage social-first videos — especially during high-volume moments or when supporting the team during coverage needs. Comfort with on-camera work, editing, and adapting content for short-form platforms is essential.

The ideal candidate is equal parts organized operator and flexible creator — someone who thrives on planning and publishing workflows but is also comfortable editing or filming short-form content when needed. A deep love of animals, and ideally, being a pet parent yourself, is key to connecting with our audience.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Platform Management & Scheduling

  • Own day-to-day scheduling and publishing of social content across platforms including TikTok, YouTube (VOD & Shorts), Instagram, and Threads.
  • Tailor copy and tags per platform, manage contributor attributions, and handle light community engagement (e.g. pinning, tagging updates).
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure seamless publishing aligned with platform best practices.
  • Use tools like Dash Hudson, Buffer, and native platform schedulers to manage workflows efficiently.
  • Track and surface content performance insights, identify trends, and help refine publishing strategies.
  • Stay up-to-date on platform shifts and emerging features to keep our strategy current.
  • Collaborate with analytics and content leads to monitor performance and flag fluctuations that may impact results.
  • Proactively identify gaps in the publishing pipeline and help implement solutions to maintain cadence.

Video Production Support

  • Contribute to short-form video content by pitching, filming, editing, or repackaging videos for social platforms.
  • Support the team during high-volume campaigns or coverage gaps (e.g. PTO) by stepping in to create or adapt content as needed.

SUCCESS WILL LOOK LIKE

  • Reliable, consistent publishing across platforms — timely, accurate, and aligned with best practices.
  • A 360-degree approach to platform management — balancing business goals, revenue priorities, creative execution, and audience connection.
  • Proactive support of The Pack’s creator needs — jumping in with content or coverage during high-volume moments.
  • Ownership of your assigned platforms — spotting workflow improvements, surfacing wins, and staying responsive to platform updates and trends.
  • A deep understanding of The Dodo’s and The Pack’s communities — publishing with empathy, engagement, and authenticity.

WHO YOU ARE

  • 3+ years of social media experience, with deep knowledge of content scheduling, publishing, and audience engagement.
  • Strong familiarity with tools like Meta Business Suite, YouTube Studio, Dash Hudson, and other schedulers.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented — you thrive in deadline-driven environments and handle volume with ease.
  • Confident editing short-form content for social (CapCut, mobile editors, Premiere).
  • Experience as a content creator is a bonus — especially if you bring POV-driven or creator-first instincts to your work.
  • Comfortable being on-camera or doing voiceover when needed — you value authenticity and connection.
  • You own a pet and enjoy being part of the pet-parenting community.
  • You’re passionate about The Dodo’s mission and excited to support both The Dodo and The Pack.

Safe Remote Job Search Tips

Verify Employer Thoroughly

Research the company's identity thoroughly before applying. Check for a professional website with contacts, active social media, and LinkedIn profiles. Verify details across platforms and look for reviews on Glassdoor or Trustpilot to confirm legitimacy.

Never Pay to Get a Job

Legitimate employers never require payment for applications, training, background checks, or equipment. Always reject upfront payment requests or demands for bank details, even if they claim it's for purchasing necessary work gear on your behalf.

Safeguard Your Personal Information

Protect sensitive data like SSN, bank details, or ID copies. Share this only after accepting a formal, written job offer. Ensure it's submitted via a secure company system or portal, never through insecure channels like standard email attachments.

Scrutinize Communication & Interviews

Watch for communication red flags: poor grammar, generic emails (@gmail), vague details, or undue pressure. Be highly suspicious of interviews held only via text or chat apps; legitimate companies typically use video or phone calls.

Beware of Unrealistic Offers

If an offer's salary or benefits seem unrealistically high for the work involved, be cautious. Research standard pay for similar roles. Offers that appear 'too good to be true' are often scams designed to lure you into providing information or payment.

Insist on a Formal Contract

Always secure and review a formal, written job offer or employment contract before starting work or sharing final personal details. Ensure it clearly defines your role, compensation, key terms, and conditions to avoid misunderstandings or scams.
