THE POSITION

We’re looking for passionate & experienced technologists, strong communicators and those with a commitment to continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate will have the confidence to propose pragmatic solutions to complex problems and be eager to learn from and educate others. As a Software Engineer working for our Sportsbook vertical, you will work in empowered, multidisciplinary teams, autonomously tackling complex challenges that provide the very best experiences and products as we build out an exciting and innovative customer experience within the fast paced and growing sports betting environment.

You will own and become subject matter experts of areas of your product and technology stack and will be the go to person for those areas. You are considered a Software Engineer on your team. You work efficiently and routinely deliver the right things with limited guidance. Your work focuses on complex, ambiguous problem areas in existing or new software initiatives. You take the long-term view. You consider where each system is at in its life cycle and where appropriate, proactively fix architecture deficiencies. You can take the lead on new features and deliver it End to End. You enjoy coaching and developing other software engineers' technical skills.

As a Software Engineer with a drive for operating through ambiguity, we are looking for your expertise in Java development to complement our specialist teams, with a desire to learn existing technologies across our stack, champion the adoption of new technologies and techniques where they will add value and help deliver great products our customers come to expect from us.

Our engineering teams work in an agile environment, but it's the autonomy and empowerment given to our multi-functional teams that makes the big difference. We utilise methods for delivery, quality and collective improvement that work for them, not a one size fits all approach. That's what allows our teams to deliver on a constant cycle without external dependencies.

  • Responsible for the state of the code you both inherit and produce.
  • You write simple and extendable code following standards and best practices. You test your code thoroughly
  • You classify, store, and handle data in accordance with FanDuel policies.
  • You track security risks and mitigate and/or escalate them in a timely manner.
  • You understand the maintenance characteristics, run-time properties, and dependencies or your team's software, including hardware platform, operating system and build dependencies.
  • You clearly document your software to ensure that future generations of developers understand the intention behind the features and components you build.
  • You provide excellent customer support on an on-call rotation where required
  • In the event of a problem, you can troubleshoot, research the root cause of problems, and thoroughly resolve defects.
  • You provide excellent customer support.
  • You participate in the interview process and help your team train SE interns.
  • You will keep yourself up to date with market standards, open-source frameworks.
  • Most importantly, you are; humble, pragmatic, self-managed, thirsty for knowledge, never satisfied and always challenging the norm.

THE STATS

What we’re looking for in our next teammate

  • Degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience building and designing highly scalable, fault tolerant and always available systems
  • Experience of Java development
  • Grasp in a broad range of data structures and algorithms
  • Experience working with a high concurrency/high transactional/highly available platform
  • Proficiency in translating requirements into design and developing applications.
  • Experience with CI/CD platforms and pipelines
  • Ability to understand the dependencies between components and how they combine to deliver service to the consumer and business
  • Familiarity working with cloud-based infrastructure and technologies (e.g AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Experience with testing concepts, test tools, and integrating testing and best practices into the SDLC
  • Demonstrated abilities driving operational excellence and best practices.
  • In-Depth understanding of best practices for concurrency and threading
  • Familiarity with git, GitHub, Jira, and Confluence
  • You are passionate about working within a fast-paced environments and can adapt to change
