Staff Qualitative Product Researcher, Curation

Job Description

About Pinterest:

Millions of people across the world come to Pinterest to find new ideas every day. It’s where they get inspiration, dream about new possibilities and plan for what matters most. Our mission is to help those people find their inspiration and create a life they love. In your role, you’ll be challenged to take on work that upholds this mission and pushes Pinterest forward. You’ll grow as a person and leader in your field, all the while helping Pinners make their lives better in the positive corner of the internet.

Creating a life you love also means finding a career that celebrates the unique perspectives and experiences that you bring. As you read through the expectations of the position, consider how your skills and experiences may complement the responsibilities of the role. We encourage you to think through your relevant and transferable skills from prior experiences.

Our new progressive work model is called PinFlex, a term that’s uniquely Pinterest to describe our flexible approach to living and working. Visit our PinFlex landing page to learn more.

Pinterest is looking for a Staff Qualitative Product Researcher to lead research on our curation experiences (e.g., boards and saving). We’re looking for an experienced researcher who can lead, design, execute, and communicate impactful research, and work with crossfunctional partners to make decisions and guide the product strategy.

Curation is at the heart of the Pinterest product. You’ll lead research that informs what’s next in this space–making it easier for Pinners to get back to and take action on the ideas they’ve saved.

What you’ll do:

  • Prioritize and conduct research that varies in approach, scale, scope, timeframe and methodologies across multiple work streams, making sure to work on the right project at the right time
  • Select and communicate the appropriate method or mix of methods (ranging from usability testing, diary studies, semi-structured interviews, participatory workshops, and everything in between) to answer questions for product teams or the broader company
  • Collaborate closely with other researchers to partner on projects, synthesize findings across studies, and produce POVs
  • Build strong relationships as a strategic partner with Product, Design, Engineering, Content Design, and Analytics to identify high impact work and ensure it lands within teams
  • Lead research projects from beginning to end (define study goals, align on research questions, construct a research plan, recruit, gather data, synthesize learnings, and socialize insights)
  • Proactively communicate and share your research findings with product teams and other audiences in compelling, actionable, and engaging ways
  • Inform product team strategy and roadmap; provide perspective on the problems the team can focus on solving for users

What we’re looking for:

  • 5+ years experience designing and conducting end-to-end product research as part of cross-functional product teams, ideally at a consumer-facing tech company
  • Broad toolbox of qualitative methods and the ability to select appropriate methods to answer different types of questions
  • Experience with conducting foundational and generative research, as well as evaluative and tactical research
  • Strong ability to tie research insights to actionable and specific product implications
  • Excellent communication, storytelling / narrative building, and presentation skills
  • Collaborative approach to research and ability to bring stakeholders along for the process
  • Ability to toggle between owning and executing end-to-end research and leveraging insights to shape strategy and influence decision making with product leaders
  • Curiosity, self-awareness, humility, and a drive for growth, learning, and sharing knowledge
  • Ability to operate and support teams autonomously in a fast-moving environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, a related field or equivalent experience

Relocation Statement:

  • This position is not eligible for relocation assistance. Visit our PinFlex page to learn more about our working model.

In-Office Requirement Statement:

  • We let the type of work you do guide the collaboration style. That means we're not always working in an office, but we continue to gather for key moments of collaboration and connection.
  • This role will need to be in the office for in-person collaboration 1-2 times/quarter and therefore can be situated anywhere in the country.

Safe Remote Job Search Tips

Verify Employer Thoroughly

Research the company's identity thoroughly before applying. Check for a professional website with contacts, active social media, and LinkedIn profiles. Verify details across platforms and look for reviews on Glassdoor or Trustpilot to confirm legitimacy.

Never Pay to Get a Job

Legitimate employers never require payment for applications, training, background checks, or equipment. Always reject upfront payment requests or demands for bank details, even if they claim it's for purchasing necessary work gear on your behalf.

Safeguard Your Personal Information

Protect sensitive data like SSN, bank details, or ID copies. Share this only after accepting a formal, written job offer. Ensure it's submitted via a secure company system or portal, never through insecure channels like standard email attachments.

Scrutinize Communication & Interviews

Watch for communication red flags: poor grammar, generic emails (@gmail), vague details, or undue pressure. Be highly suspicious of interviews held only via text or chat apps; legitimate companies typically use video or phone calls.

Beware of Unrealistic Offers

If an offer's salary or benefits seem unrealistically high for the work involved, be cautious. Research standard pay for similar roles. Offers that appear 'too good to be true' are often scams designed to lure you into providing information or payment.

Insist on a Formal Contract

Always secure and review a formal, written job offer or employment contract before starting work or sharing final personal details. Ensure it clearly defines your role, compensation, key terms, and conditions to avoid misunderstandings or scams.
