Job Description

Overview: We are seeking a Staff Software Development Engineer to lead the design and development of a customer-facing healthcare application that empowers health plans and providers to deliver better patient care and improved healthcare outcomes. This is a high-impact role requiring deep backend expertise, distributed systems design, and hands-on development skills within a cloud-native, microservices-based environment. This position brings subject matter expertise as a functional lead and is tasked with ensuring a high level of discipline and productivity

You will work on mission-critical systems that manage sensitive health data, contribute to architectural decisions, and mentor engineers across teams. Your work will directly influence the quality and scalability of our platform used by thousands of healthcare professionals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, build and maintain scalable data pipelines and access patterns related to healthcare.
  • Research, evaluate and utilize new technologies/tools/frameworks centered around high-volume data processing in AWS.
  • Document and estimate technical scope and design as needed.
  • Design and implement distributed data processing pipelines using tools and languages prevalent in the big data ecosystem.
  • Involve and drive a culture of collaborative reviews of designs, code and test plans.
  • Work with business stakeholders and architecture engineering leads to ensure quality solutions are implemented and engineering standard methodologies adhered to.
  • DevOps Focus – Utilize and advance continuous integration and deployment frameworks.
  • Provide strong technical leadership, raise the technical bar, maintain data and results-driven culture, nurture a team culture of high collaboration and trust.
  • Influence and coach junior engineers both within and outside of your team; be a role model for an open, honest, and inclusive approach to problem solving.
  • Adhere to all confidentiality, HIPAA, regulatory, and other such policies, procedures, and requirements as outlined within Employer’s Operating Policies and Procedures in all ways and at all times with respect to any aspect of the data handled or services rendered in the scope of work; and
  • Maintain compliance with Inovalon’s policies, procedures and mission statement, and fulfill those responsibilities and/or duties that may be reasonably provided by Inovalon for the purpose of achieving operational and financial success.

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in software development & architecture
  • Strong hands-on expertise with
  • .NET Core/ C#
  • Angular or React
  • Microservices, Rest API’s, Event driven architecture
  • Cloud Platforms: AWS (Preferred), GCP, Azure
  • PostgreSQL/SQL Server/ Dynamo DB
  • Minimum 4 years' experience with containerization services using Kubernetes or Docker and CI/CD tools like GitHub Actions and Jenkins.
  • Proficient in architecture patterns: layered, clean architecture etc.
  • Excellent Verbal & written communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving, debugging & Performance tuning skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in working with distributed teams and global delivery models. Experience leading, mentoring and coaching technology teams.
  • Prior experience working in healthcare or health-tech environments.
  • Familiarity with FHIR, HL7, or healthcare-specific data standards.
  • Active contributor to open-source projects or internal technical communities.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or Information Technology

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Sedentary work (i.e., sitting for long periods of time).
  • Subject to inside environmental conditions.
  • Travel for this position will include less than 10% locally, usually for training purposes.

In addition to the base compensation, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.

The actual base pay offered may vary depending on multiple factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity. At Inovalon, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.

Base Compensation Range
$162,000$210,000 USD
