Job Description
A new paradigm of computing
Magic Leap is a pioneer in spatial computing, developing groundbreaking augmented reality technology that seamlessly blends digital content with the real world. As the creator of the next computing platform, our mixed reality devices unlock new possibilities for how people interact with and experience their surroundings.
Magic Leap could be your place if you want to be part of a united team where everyone is empowered and trusted to make an impact. At Magic Leap, you can explore innovative solutions and use your talents to solve real-world problems. Working alongside industry experts, you can grow your skills and amplify human potential at the intersection of the physical and digital worlds. We know that successful change and progress accelerate diverse perspectives. As we shape our future, everyone's voice matters. Together, we can reimagine the world of work and, with our bold partners, make the impossible possible.
The opportunity
As a Staff Structural Simulation Engineer within our Mechanical Engineering group, you would be part of a high performing and highly empowered team focused on identifying and solving structural challenges with our device before products are ever built, optimizing device design to ensure desired performance, and root causing issues once devices are assembled and unforeseen issues arise. In this role you will have all the tools at your fingertips (both simulation and testing) required to meet whatever your current tasking demands.
Due to the nascent nature of the Augmented Reality (AR) industry, you will have the pleasure of working on truly unsolved issues and will constantly be required to create new ways to evaluate, understand, and solve different design challenges. This role is highly multi-disciplinary and works closely with our mechanical engineering design team, electrical engineering team, new product integration team, human factors team, optics team, materials team, and experimentalist team.
If you enjoy technical challenges, can consider problems from a system level perspective, like making an impact, and take pleasure in communicating complex findings in a manner that all audiences can understand, this may be a position for you.
*This role is ideally based at our Plantation, FL headquarters, but we will consider remote arrangements for exceptional candidates who are a strong fit for the position*
What you’ll do
- Couple first principle physics understanding with ANSYS FEA simulation tools (Mechanical and LS-Dyna) to evaluate Magic Leap devices for:
- Optical metrics
- Robustness Under Normal User Loading
- Drop Robustness
- Fatigue Performance of Dynamic Components
- Human Comfort
- Manufacturability and Ease of Assembly
- Appropriate material selection
- Etc.
- Following initial evaluation of any of the above, identify and communicate risk assessments, recommended optimizations, and other findings to the various internal stakeholders
- Grow Magic Leap’s ability to properly characterize materials and adhesives by guiding testing efforts such that results are meaningful to the simulation team
- Guide the development of test protocol for sub-assembly level components
- Create custom scripts to post-process results into meaningful findings
- Help other teams understand device level risks and help focus their efforts appropriately
- Think creatively to identify new ways to push the performance of our device and drive those investigations to completion
The experience you bring
- 8+ years of professional experience in structural simulation
- Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Mechanical, Structural, or Aerospace engineering
- Strong understanding of mechanics and FEA theory, and experience putting said knowledge into practice
- Demonstrated system level thinking and understanding
- Highly self-motivated and capable of balancing different priorities effectively
- Fearlessness in asking questions to quickly and effectively comprehend stakeholders needs and/or challenges
- Knowledge of ANSYS Mechanical and/or ANSYS LS-Dyna
- Excellent communication skills and a demonstrated ability to communicate to stakeholders with different backgrounds and motivations
- An unrelenting drive to identify the optimal solutions (for all parties), find the cause of a given failure, and ensure problems are considered comprehensively with a physics mindset
It’s exciting if you also have
- Knowledge of at least one programming/scripting language (Matlab, Python, etc.)
- Knowledge of statistics.
- Experience with plastics and mass manufacturing processes.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team/effort (does not have to be in a formal capacity)

Verify Employer Thoroughly
Research the company's identity thoroughly before applying. Check for a professional website with contacts, active social media, and LinkedIn profiles. Verify details across platforms and look for reviews on Glassdoor or Trustpilot to confirm legitimacy.
Never Pay to Get a Job
Legitimate employers never require payment for applications, training, background checks, or equipment. Always reject upfront payment requests or demands for bank details, even if they claim it's for purchasing necessary work gear on your behalf.
Safeguard Your Personal Information
Protect sensitive data like SSN, bank details, or ID copies. Share this only after accepting a formal, written job offer. Ensure it's submitted via a secure company system or portal, never through insecure channels like standard email attachments.
Scrutinize Communication & Interviews
Watch for communication red flags: poor grammar, generic emails (@gmail), vague details, or undue pressure. Be highly suspicious of interviews held only via text or chat apps; legitimate companies typically use video or phone calls.
Beware of Unrealistic Offers
If an offer's salary or benefits seem unrealistically high for the work involved, be cautious. Research standard pay for similar roles. Offers that appear 'too good to be true' are often scams designed to lure you into providing information or payment.
Insist on a Formal Contract
Always secure and review a formal, written job offer or employment contract before starting work or sharing final personal details. Ensure it clearly defines your role, compensation, key terms, and conditions to avoid misunderstandings or scams.
