The Team

Upstart's stock administration program sits within the broader Legal team (the Corporate Legal team, specifically). Legal is a key component of the company, helping Upstart innovate in the fintech space across multiple products and supporting its mission of expanding access to credit based on true risk.

As the Stock Administration Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of our equity programs, ensuring accurate and timely processing of equity transactions, including grants, exercises, and releases. You will partner cross-functionally with Finance, Legal, and People (HR) to maintain data integrity, support compliance, and provide excellent service to our employees and stakeholders. You will also help enhance the employee equity experience and support strategic initiatives in compensation and total rewards.

Position location This role is available Remote, with a preference for candidates living in or near San Mateo, CA.

Time zone requirements The team operates on the West coast time zone.

Travel requirements As a digital first company, the majority of your work can be accomplished remotely. The majority of our employees can live and work anywhere in the U.S but are encouraged to to still spend high quality time in-person collaborating via regular onsites. The in-person sessions’ cadence varies depending on the team and role; most teams meet once or twice per quarter for 2-4 consecutive days at a time.

How you’ll make an impact

  • Administering all aspects of the company’s equity plan for U.S. employees (including grants, exercises, forfeitures, etc.) and ensuring that all transactions are correctly and accurately processed in a timely manner
  • Partnering closely with internal teams, including Finance, Legal, and HR to ensure seamless administration and compliance
  • Maintaining the integrity of equity data in Upstart's online equity tool/platform and managing the relationship with the platform vendor
  • Providing a high level of customer service in responding to employee and management inquiries
  • Leading efforts to educate employee population on how the equity program works and the value to them as participants

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA or BS)
  • Certified Equity Professional credential
  • 5+ years of stock administration experience
  • Broad experience with a range of equity compensation instruments and plans, including stock options, RSUs, and ESPPs
  • Experience working in stock administration for public companies
  • Experience with online equity platforms (such Charles Schwab)
  • Expert use of Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of regulatory and compliance matters as they relate to equity

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage competing priorities, adhere to tight deadlines and collaborate with cross functional teams
  • Ability to work independently and drive systems and processes
  • Equity accounting & tax knowledge
  • Experience with proxy data, Section 16 filings and 10b5-1 plans

At Upstart, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. The anticipated base salary for this position is expected to be within the below range. Your actual base pay will depend on your geographic location–with our “digital first” philosophy, Upstart uses compensation regions that vary depending on location. Individual pay is also determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. In addition, Upstart provides employees with target bonuses, equity compensation, and generous benefits packages (including medical, dental, vision, and 401k).
