The Role
We are currently seeking a Veterinary Admissions Counselor who has prior experience on a Veterinary School Admissions Committee and is enthusiastic about guiding students through the application process. As a Veterinary Admissions Counselor with our organization, your primary responsibility will be to assist students in excelling in all aspects of the veterinary school application process. Your goal is to work individually with students to identify their weaknesses, boost their confidence, and improve their overall application. You will closely mentor students, monitor their academic progress, and guide them through the application process, ultimately helping them secure a position at their desired veterinary school. This role is crucial to our organization's dedication to providing exceptional academic support and aiding students in reaching their educational and professional aspirations. This role can be located anywhere in the United States or Canada.
Responsibilities
- Work with prospective veterinary school candidates, helping them identify opportunities to enhance their profiles and draft compelling application materials
- Manage relationships with applicants and families while providing strategic and tactical guidance on school selection, personal statements, CVs, recommendations, interviews, and the overall veterinary school application process
- Identify optimal veterinary schools and programs for individual students; provide detailed feedback and guidance on their research into specific schools, ensuring alignment with the student’s background, goals, and specialty interests
- Support students with project planning, helping them create and adhere to effective timelines through Excel-based trackers or other tools
- Stay up-to-date on the veterinary school application process, including VMCAS (Veterinary Medical College Application Service) requirements, GRE preparation, and program-specific criteria, to advise prospective and existing clients on appropriate school selection and application strategies
Qualifications
- Admissions Committee Experience: Previous experience serving on a veterinary school admissions committee or selection board, offering valuable insights into the admissions process
- Currently in your Residency Program, have completed your DVM
- Graduate from a top US veterinary program.
- A passion for mentoring and guiding students
- Strong planning and organizational skills to assist students in managing complex application timelines
- Exceptional English reading, writing, and editing skills to support students in crafting impactful application materials
- Strong verbal communication skills to clearly convey advice and feedback
- Expertise in project management to help students stay on track during the rigorous application process
- Experience in education, coaching, tutoring, or admission consulting
