Job Description
About the Role
We're in search of an extraordinary Vice President of Data to lead and scale our Data team—a role that sits at the very heart of Roo's mission and growth. Reporting directly to the CEO, you'll have a front-row seat to shaping the future of veterinary care, turning insights into actions that redefine how our marketplace thrives. You'll craft a data strategy that doesn't just support the business, but propels it forward. You will design the infrastructure that brings our data to life and partner across the organization to create an unstoppable force of insights and innovation. We're seeking a visionary leader—someone who recognizes that data is the fuel for transformation and can harness it to illuminate opportunities, eliminate inefficiencies, and power real impact.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and Execute Data Strategy: Architect a data strategy that is as bold as our mission. Your vision will fuel every insight and decision at Roo, enabling our teams to move from gut feel to precision-driven actions that transform veterinary care.
- Lead Growth Team: Lead the spearhead of execution at Roo—the Growth team. This team is the heartbeat of our marketplace, relentlessly monitoring dynamics, gleaning actionable insights, and driving proactive decisions across product and GTM teams. Your leadership will inspire the Growth team to be at the forefront of maximizing marketplace impact, transforming insights into strategic advantage, and pushing the envelope of what's possible.
- Own Data Engineering and Infrastructure: Oversee the Data Engineering function that serves as the backbone of Roo's data operations. You'll architect a scalable data ecosystem that empowers our Growth team and the broader organization with real-time analytics, predictive insights, and data-driven product innovations. This part of the role is about building and maintaining the "how"—the infrastructure that powers impactful data-driven decisions across Roo.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Be the bridge that connects data with action. Partner closely with product, engineering, marketing, and operations to turn data into a strategic asset, aligning initiatives with company-wide goals and fostering a culture where data informs every choice we make.
- Insights and Analytics: Lead the charge in developing advanced analytics and reporting capabilities that don't just present data, but tell the story of our marketplace. You'll guide us to make smarter decisions, optimize dynamics, and unlock opportunities that others can't see.
- Data Governance: Establish a foundation of trust in our data. Implement best-in-class governance practices to ensure data quality, security, and compliance—empowering Roo to move fast without breaking things.
What You'll Bring:
- 10+ Years of Data Leadership: Extensive experience leading data and analytics teams, with a proven track record of leveraging data to drive business outcomes.
- Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of modern data infrastructure, cloud-based data platforms, ETL processes, and data modeling. Proficiency in SQL and familiarity with tools like Snowflake, dbt, or similar technologies.
- Strategic Vision: Ability to align data initiatives with company strategy and craft compelling narratives that inspire action. You are a master at turning complex insights into simple, powerful stories that drive strategy—from a detailed written analysis to a board-level presentation. Your communication resonates across every layer of the organization, transforming insights into momentum.
- Strong Business Acumen: Experience partnering with product, operations, and go-to-market teams to leverage data in optimizing performance and driving growth.
- Leadership Skills: A passion for mentoring and developing data professionals, and a track record of building high-performing, diverse teams.
- Data-Driven Culture: Enthusiasm for instilling a data-first mindset across an organization and elevating data literacy among cross-functional teams.

Verify Employer Thoroughly
Research the company's identity thoroughly before applying. Check for a professional website with contacts, active social media, and LinkedIn profiles. Verify details across platforms and look for reviews on Glassdoor or Trustpilot to confirm legitimacy.
Never Pay to Get a Job
Legitimate employers never require payment for applications, training, background checks, or equipment. Always reject upfront payment requests or demands for bank details, even if they claim it's for purchasing necessary work gear on your behalf.
Safeguard Your Personal Information
Protect sensitive data like SSN, bank details, or ID copies. Share this only after accepting a formal, written job offer. Ensure it's submitted via a secure company system or portal, never through insecure channels like standard email attachments.
Scrutinize Communication & Interviews
Watch for communication red flags: poor grammar, generic emails (@gmail), vague details, or undue pressure. Be highly suspicious of interviews held only via text or chat apps; legitimate companies typically use video or phone calls.
Beware of Unrealistic Offers
If an offer's salary or benefits seem unrealistically high for the work involved, be cautious. Research standard pay for similar roles. Offers that appear 'too good to be true' are often scams designed to lure you into providing information or payment.
Insist on a Formal Contract
Always secure and review a formal, written job offer or employment contract before starting work or sharing final personal details. Ensure it clearly defines your role, compensation, key terms, and conditions to avoid misunderstandings or scams.
