About You
We are seeking a Vice President of R&D Formulation to lead and scale formulation efforts across the product portfolio of our supplement and cosmetic businesses at Nutrafol. This is a key executive leadership role, reporting directly to the Chief R&D Officer.
Responsibilities:
Formulation Development and Strategy
- Manage a team of formulators, scientists and technical experts and oversee product formulation, prototyping, sensory testing, stability studies and scale-up trials.
- Design formulations, including solid and liquid dosage forms, troubleshoot formulation-related issues and optimize formulations based on results.
- Help define and execute the R&D strategy aligned with business objectives and customer needs.
- Effectively partner with cross-functional leaders in Marketing, Product Development,, Innovation, Clinical and Medical Affairs, Regulatory and Quality Affairs, and Supply Chain departments.
- Ensure compliance with FDA regulations and quality requirements.
- The candidate must have demonstrated an ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary, dynamic environment with excellent scientific and communication skills.
Team Leadership & Structure
- Build, mentor, and scale a high-performing Formulation team
- Foster a collaborative, fast-moving, and accountable culture
Commercial & Technical Oversight
- Ensure product feasibility, stability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness
- Drive partnerships with co-manufacturers and ingredient suppliers to deliver high-quality formulations
- Establish KPI’s for formulation timelines, technical deliverables and product performance metrics.
- Manage R&D budgets, resource allocation, and external partnerships
Strategic Input
- Serve as a thought leader within the business for new formats, categories, and technologies
- Present to Executive and Board-level stakeholders
Requirements
- Ph.D. or equivalent in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field
- 15+ years of progressive experience in R&D leadership in a CPG or dietary supplements company, or health-focused cosmetics brand; hair category experience is required
- Proven leadership in developing and launching consumer products at scale
- Deep understanding of ingredient science, formulation and scale-up processes, with the ability to identify vendors/collaborators/opportunities for innovation and improvement
- Experience in partnering with external partners, co-manufacturers and raw material suppliers.
- Understanding of cGMP, FDA regulations, DSHEA, and cosmetic regulatory standards
- Ability to work cross-functionally in a high growth, agile environment
- Strong commercial intuition and consumer focused mindset
