Job Description
For millions of teams working in dozens of industries, day-to-day business gets done on the phone. So why — despite the huge leaps we've taken in design and usability — does most business phone software still look, feel, and act like it was born in the 90s? OpenPhone is changing that.
We’re a new type of business phone with a mission to help people communicate better and be more productive.
We’re backed by Y Combinator and some of the best venture firms around including Tiger Global, Craft Ventures, Slow Ventures, and others. We take pride in providing an exceptional customer experience and a product people love, which is why we’re excited that our customers have rated us the #1 VoIP Provider on G2.
OpenPhone is the modern, sophisticated answer to the clunky, outdated phone systems that have been slowing down businesses for years. With thousands of happy customers and several rounds of funding in just five years, it's safe to say we're onto something big.
About the Role
We’re looking for a proactive, detail-oriented, and systems-savvy Accounting Manager to join our lean but high-impact Finance team. In this role, you’ll help scale our core accounting operations, take ownership of the month-end close, manage day-to-day transactional accounting, and support key processes across compliance, payroll, and financial reporting.
This position is a great fit for someone who thrives in high-growth environments, enjoys solving complex problems, and is eager to take ownership of foundational accounting processes while helping us build for scale. A strong grasp of US GAAP, experience with accounting systems and integrations (such as QuickBooks, Stripe, Ramp, Rippling, and Deel), and a mindset focused on automation, documentation, and continuous improvement are all important. We also value intellectual curiosity and an openness to exploring how tools like AI can improve accuracy, efficiency, and decision-making in our workflows.
You’ll work closely with our Controller and collaborate across teams throughout the organization.
Some of the things you’ll do:
- Lead and manage our month-end close process, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules for areas like accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, and reclasses
- Own accounts payable and spend management, including GL review of Ramp transactions, vendor setup, bill pay workflows, reimbursements, and expense policy compliance
- Support financial reporting across multiple entities, including consolidation, monthly close packages, variance analysis, investor reporting, and audit preparation
- Oversee payroll accounting and support related reporting and reconciliations, including EOR payroll, Rippling payroll, and fringe benefits tracking
- Manage tax and compliance workflows, including 1099 filings, mailbox management, and state/local registrations
- Support sales and telecom tax operations, including reviewing Avalara reports, maintaining tax estimates, and assisting with telecom registration and filing activities
- Drive improvements in accounting systems and integrations
- Assist with technical accounting research, policy documentation, and audit memo preparation in alignment with GAAP
- Take initiative on strategic projects, such as AI tooling for finance, data cleanup, or ERP readiness initiatives
- Own revenue recognition and partner cross-functionally to improve Stripe billing operations and customer balance workflows
About you:
- 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, including time in fast-paced, high-growth SaaS, telecommunications or tech environments
- Strong understanding of US GAAP, with hands-on experience managing general ledger and close processes
- Proficiency with accounting systems like QuickBooks, and finance tools like Ramp, Rippling, Deel, Stripe, and Avalara
- Experience managing or supporting multi-entity accounting, international operations, or tax compliance a plus
- A knack for process improvement and automation, with a systems-first mindset and high attention to detail
- Takes ownership, communicates clearly, and brings a roll-up-your-sleeves attitude to problem solving and cross-functional collaboration
- CPA or progress toward CPA is a strong plus, but not required

Verify Employer Thoroughly
Research the company's identity thoroughly before applying. Check for a professional website with contacts, active social media, and LinkedIn profiles. Verify details across platforms and look for reviews on Glassdoor or Trustpilot to confirm legitimacy.
Never Pay to Get a Job
Legitimate employers never require payment for applications, training, background checks, or equipment. Always reject upfront payment requests or demands for bank details, even if they claim it's for purchasing necessary work gear on your behalf.
Safeguard Your Personal Information
Protect sensitive data like SSN, bank details, or ID copies. Share this only after accepting a formal, written job offer. Ensure it's submitted via a secure company system or portal, never through insecure channels like standard email attachments.
Scrutinize Communication & Interviews
Watch for communication red flags: poor grammar, generic emails (@gmail), vague details, or undue pressure. Be highly suspicious of interviews held only via text or chat apps; legitimate companies typically use video or phone calls.
Beware of Unrealistic Offers
If an offer's salary or benefits seem unrealistically high for the work involved, be cautious. Research standard pay for similar roles. Offers that appear 'too good to be true' are often scams designed to lure you into providing information or payment.
Insist on a Formal Contract
Always secure and review a formal, written job offer or employment contract before starting work or sharing final personal details. Ensure it clearly defines your role, compensation, key terms, and conditions to avoid misunderstandings or scams.
