Job Description
We’re looking for a Community Manager to lead and engage with communities that matter to our founder and builder audiences, starting with Reddit, X, and our own Mercury-owned spaces. You’ll be on the front line of authentic interaction in founder circles and other entrepreneurial communities, representing Mercury where the conversations are already happening and helping us deepen connection and sentiment across multiple platforms.
This is a unique opportunity for someone who deeply understands the founder experience and who knows how to build trust and drive authentic conversation without sounding like a brand bot.
Mercury is a financial technology company, not a bank. Banking services provided through Choice Financial Group, Column N.A., and Evolve Bank & Trust; Members FDIC.
What You’ll Do
- Craft and execute a strategy for community engagement on Reddit and X
- Own our organic presence on each channel
- Monitor high-signal threads and actively participate in a way that’s native to the platform
- Surface opportunities for organic engagement, sentiment shaping, and content inspiration
- Build trust in Mercury’s voice by being present, helpful, and founder-first
- Measure and report on the impact of this work
- Identify other external communities Mercury should be present in
- Research opportunities, explore ways to test for impact, and develop plans for resourcing as appropriate
- Manage Mercury’s owned Slack community
- Run our existing founder Slack
- Create a strong feedback loop between community conversations and internal teams (marketing, product, support)
- Be the connective tissue across paid and organic efforts
- Collaborate with the Growth Marketing team to ensure continuity between our paid Reddit and X strategies and our organic presence
- Share learnings and community insights regularly with the broader Marketing and Product teams
You should :
- Have proven experience building or moderating online communities, especially on Reddit and X.
- Be fluent in internet culture and niche forums (e.g. Reddit, Discord, IndieHackers), and have a track record of showing up authentically in those spaces.
- Be highly autonomous and proactive — you consistently surface opportunities and initiate engagement without waiting for direction.
- Be a strong communicator who prioritizes authentic, dialogue-driven community engagement over brand broadcasting.
- Know how to analyze community insights and turn them into actionable feedback for cross-functional teams (e.g. marketing, product).
- Have experience collaborating across social, content, and growth teams to align community initiatives with broader strategy.
- Thrive in ambiguity and fast-paced environments, with a natural bias toward experimentation and iteration.
- Bring sharp copy instincts and a strong sense of brand voice, with experience contributing to content or communications.
- Bonus: You’re already familiar with Mercury, founder communities, or the fintech ecosystem
The total rewards package at Mercury includes base salary, equity (stock options), and benefits.
Our salary and equity ranges are highly competitive within the SaaS and fintech industry and are updated regularly using the most reliable compensation survey data for our industry. Verify Employer Thoroughly
Research the company's identity thoroughly before applying. Check for a professional website with contacts, active social media, and LinkedIn profiles. Verify details across platforms and look for reviews on Glassdoor or Trustpilot to confirm legitimacy.
Never Pay to Get a Job
Legitimate employers never require payment for applications, training, background checks, or equipment. Always reject upfront payment requests or demands for bank details, even if they claim it's for purchasing necessary work gear on your behalf.
Safeguard Your Personal Information
Protect sensitive data like SSN, bank details, or ID copies. Share this only after accepting a formal, written job offer. Ensure it's submitted via a secure company system or portal, never through insecure channels like standard email attachments.
Scrutinize Communication & Interviews
Watch for communication red flags: poor grammar, generic emails (@gmail), vague details, or undue pressure. Be highly suspicious of interviews held only via text or chat apps; legitimate companies typically use video or phone calls.
Beware of Unrealistic Offers
If an offer's salary or benefits seem unrealistically high for the work involved, be cautious. Research standard pay for similar roles. Offers that appear 'too good to be true' are often scams designed to lure you into providing information or payment.
Insist on a Formal Contract
Always secure and review a formal, written job offer or employment contract before starting work or sharing final personal details. Ensure it clearly defines your role, compensation, key terms, and conditions to avoid misunderstandings or scams.
