As a Director of Engineering for our LLM Training business, you will drive the development of high-quality, foundational LLM training datasets. You will serve as a strategic leader who can seamlessly carry technical, business, and people conversations. In this role, you will not only manage and mentor large cross-functional teams of software engineers and data scientists executing Supervised Fine Tuning (SFT) and Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF) tasks but also directly engage with key strategic partners such as Anthropic, Meta, and OpenAI to further our business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Client Engagement:
    • Lead large, cross-functional teams to deliver superior SFT and RLHF datasets while directly interfacing with high-profile clients to drive business growth.
    • Act as the primary technical and business liaison, capable of engaging in detailed technical discussions and high-level business strategy.
  • Performance & Talent Management:
    • Conduct in-depth performance analysis, provide actionable feedback, and mentor team members to identify and develop high performers for advanced roles.
    • Implement and refine talent management practices that go beyond traditional metrics, emphasizing impact over years of experience.
  • Process Optimization & Project Management:
    • Oversee work stream assignments across specialized pods, prioritizing tasks and ensuring project alignment with business goals through clear project management practices.
    • Monitor team throughput, cycle times, and quality standards, driving continuous process improvements that scale efficiently.
  • Quality Control & Innovation:
    • Perform rigorous quality reviews on team outputs, providing actionable feedback to maintain high standards and early risk detection.
    • Lead prompt-generation and ideation efforts to continuously innovate product features and processes in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

Technical & Business Expertise

  • Technical Mastery:
    • Deep hands-on experience in building scalable, maintainable codebases with languages like Python and JavaScript, leveraging modern frameworks and best practices.
    • Up-to-date expertise in AI/LLM techniques (including SFT, RLHF, prompt engineering) and a proven track record of integrating advanced AI into business-critical projects.
  • Business Acumen:
    • Ability to analyze technical challenges from a business perspective, identifying growth opportunities and aligning engineering outputs with strategic client needs.
    • Experience in managing and negotiating large-scale projects with leading industry partners without being confined by traditional career metrics.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 12+ years of experience in software development with at least 6 years in a leadership role—experience is measured by impact, not just years.
  • Proven track record of leading remote and global teams (100+ team size) to deliver high-quality, scalable software products.
  • Exceptional ability to carry technical, business, and people conversations; a true techno-functional leader who is as comfortable discussing low-level technical details as high-level business strategy.
  • Demonstrated success working with strategic partners and clients to drive innovation in AI/LLM and digital transformation initiatives.

Salary Range: $220k-$270k

Advantages of joining Turing:

  • Amazing work culture (Super collaborative & supportive work environment; 5 days a week)
  • Awesome colleagues (Surround yourself with top talent from Meta, Google, LinkedIn etc. as well as people with deep startup experience)
  • Competitive compensation
  • Flexible working hours
  • Full-time remote opportunity

Safe Remote Job Search Tips

Verify Employer Thoroughly

Research the company's identity thoroughly before applying. Check for a professional website with contacts, active social media, and LinkedIn profiles. Verify details across platforms and look for reviews on Glassdoor or Trustpilot to confirm legitimacy.

Never Pay to Get a Job

Legitimate employers never require payment for applications, training, background checks, or equipment. Always reject upfront payment requests or demands for bank details, even if they claim it's for purchasing necessary work gear on your behalf.

Safeguard Your Personal Information

Protect sensitive data like SSN, bank details, or ID copies. Share this only after accepting a formal, written job offer. Ensure it's submitted via a secure company system or portal, never through insecure channels like standard email attachments.

Scrutinize Communication & Interviews

Watch for communication red flags: poor grammar, generic emails (@gmail), vague details, or undue pressure. Be highly suspicious of interviews held only via text or chat apps; legitimate companies typically use video or phone calls.

Beware of Unrealistic Offers

If an offer's salary or benefits seem unrealistically high for the work involved, be cautious. Research standard pay for similar roles. Offers that appear 'too good to be true' are often scams designed to lure you into providing information or payment.

Insist on a Formal Contract

Always secure and review a formal, written job offer or employment contract before starting work or sharing final personal details. Ensure it clearly defines your role, compensation, key terms, and conditions to avoid misunderstandings or scams.
